You can add to a bison herd about as fast as you can add to your own family. There's no rushing Mother Nature. Bison meat has been selling so well in the Baltimore and Washington area that the people at Gunpowder Bison & Trading Co. in Monkton are wishing they could better keep up with demand. "It's not like we can turn production around very fast to create more product," said Nathan Stambaugh, Gunpowder's director of sales and marketing. "We're trying to — slowly — but trying to do it the right way."

What's a nice semi-boneless quail with couscous and roasted shallots doing in a place like this? From what I understand, the new Reserve is a serious upgrade from what was there before. But the upgrade consists of two bars, more flat-screen TVs than you can shake a stick at, some high-top tables, exposed brick walls, really loud music and no fabric to speak of. All that adds up to a typical South Baltimore bar, nicer than some, but not exactly where you expect to find duck confit salad and creme brulee.

After watching his team struggle throughout the first half against lightly regarded Howard yesterday, Morgan State coach Todd Bozeman delivered a halftime speech that players said held back little. "I can't really tell you [what I said], but I wasn't happy," Bozeman said. Once play resumed, his outlook quickly changed. Paced by the long-range shooting of guard Reggie Holmes (St. Frances) - whose 22 points led five players in double figures - Morgan scored 16 straight points early in the half to take command, easily putting away the short-handed and overmatched Bison, 78-56, at Hill Field House.

Towson men's lacrosse coach Tony Seaman sees a season slipping away, and he's understandably not happy. Minutes after the Tigers lost their fourth straight in a 12-10 defeat to No. 16 Bucknell before an announced 1,136 at Johnny Unitas Stadium last night, Seaman's pained look of frustration spoke nearly as loudly as his words. "It's frustrating. This whole season has been frustrating," Seaman said. "We've got to score more goals than the other guy in one of these games. Once again, we didn't use our heads on a couple defensive possessions, and that gave them a couple easy ones."
