POLICE LOG* North Laurel: 9500 block of Cissel Avenue: A 1981 Honda dirt bike was stolen from an unlocked storage shed Friday, police said.

A 17-year-old riding a stolen motorcycle was killed Saturday night and the driver of an automobile was seriously injured in a crash on state Route 198 in Anne Arundel County. A rider on a second motorcycle fled the scene. According to county police, Ira Tracy Matthews, 53, of Laurel, was making a left-hand turn on to Race Track Road at about 10:30 p.m. when his Isuzu was struck by the motorcycle. The driver was ejected and declared dead at the scene. Matthews was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma where he was reported in serious but stable condition.

Police Blotter is a sampling of crimes from police reports in Baltimore and Baltimore County. Baltimore Southeastern Burglary/arrest -- Stephen Cioffioni of the 200 block of S. Wolfe St. was arrested Sunday evening and charged with breaking into Tienda y Restaurante La Guadalupana. An employee of the business in the 500 block of S. Wolfe St. found an intruder on the third floor of the building and called police. A door had apparent been pried open, and police reported finding two screwdrivers in the suspect's possession.

Nothing else was disturbed, police said.* Clary's Forest : 12200 block of Green Meadow Drive: A pickup truck containing a dirt bike was stolen between 9 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. Tuesday. The truck was later recovered on Bethany Lane, but the dirt bike -- a 1993 Kawa KX 125 -- is still missing.

It's not the cheapest way to get to know Baltimore, but it might be one of the best: offer to give away 50 bikes in an essay contest, sit back, and let the city reveal itself to you. "Before my bike was stolen off my back porch," one essay began. "Unfortunately, the second-hand mountain bike that I was riding was stolen," another said. "Unbelievably," yet another Baltimorean wrote, believably, "my bike was stolen." Not that Baltimore came off only as America's bikenapping capital in the essays, submitted to Bicycling magazine's BikeTown USA contest.
