On Monday, August 25, 2003, FREDERICK, beloved son of the late Fred and Marjorie Knepshield Berta; devoted husband of Barbara; loving father of Timothy and Kimberly Berta; beloved grandfather of Ashley Haschert, Kaitlyn Wilson, Mickala Holland and Brittany Berta. He was predeceased by brother Paul Berta. A Memorial Service will be held at the Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, 412 Washington Road, Westminster, on Friday at 11:30 A.M. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made, in his memory, to the American Heart Association-Mid Atlantic Affiliate, Memorial and Tributes Processing Center, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.

Berta Anne "Berry" Griebel Sherman, owner of a printing company and former president of the Pasadena Business Association, died of lymphoma Aug. 8 at her home in Cape St. Claire. She was 41. Born Berta Anne Griebel in 1963, she was raised on Steedmans Point on the Magothy River. She attended Severna Park and Chesapeake high schools, and Anne Arundel Community College. Mrs. Sherman lived in Baltimore for about 10 years before moving to Cape St. Claire four years ago. In 1995, she married Stewart Collison Edwards of Arnold.

An Abingdon man whose wife died from injuries suffered when the couple's Ford Escort was struck head-on by a motorcycle in 1992 is suing Ford Motor Co. for $12 million, alleging the car's restraint belts and automatic shoulder harness were defective.Lawyers for Fred N. Berta of the 300 block of Tall Pines Court in Abingdon filed the civil lawsuit Oct. 6 in Harford County Circuit Court. Mr. Berta is the personal representative for the estate of his wife, Marjorie V. Berta.A spokesman for the automaker denied the allegation.
