A public hearing could be scheduled for November on a company's plans to move a hazardous waste facility from Glen Burnie to an industrial park in Odenton.The Maryland Department of the Environment tentatively approved plans last week for Safety Kleen Corp., based in Illinois, to move its Glen Burnie transfer station to the Mayfield Industrial Park.Final approval won't come until after the public hearing, which must be requested by Sept. 16.Mary Baldridge, an aide to County Councilman David G. Boschert, D-Crownsville, said she would ask for a hearing Monday.

Also survived by five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many other loving family and friends. Family will receive friends at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway, Route 3 South, Bowie, MD on Monday April 17, 2006, from 7-9 P.M. and on Tuesday from 10 A.M. until hour of service, 11 A.M. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 8801 Ardwick Ardmore Road, Landover, MD. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, Davidsonville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.

Belk to celebrate renovations with activities Wednesday Belk Department Store in TownMall of Westminster will hold a grand reopening this week to celebrate a storewide renovation and expanded merchandise offerings. The $1 million renovation of the 75,000-square-foot store features the latest in retail design, floor layout, lighting and product presentation. New lighting and the removal of sight barriers should make it easier to find and see the various departments and merchandise. Expanded departments include women's clothing, accessories, lingerie and sleepwear, and men's sportswear.

It has been thus, the former truck driver says, for some 30 years, ever since he first wandered into the courthouse "to see what was going on."You will find Eugene Belk, a retired laboratory manager who once spent his free time hunting and fishing, predicting verdicts and sentences on scraps of papers he stores in a shirt pocket.

Resource center offers help to job-seekers Carroll County Business & Employment Resource Center offers workshops and programs to help individuals seeking a job or a new career. Programs include: Introduction to the Internet: 9 a.m. to 11: 30 a.m. Thursday. Job-search techniques are given. How to Negotiate: Learn how to discuss salary during the interview. Students can practice during a mock setting. The workshop will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. April 24. Start Networking Now: Learn how to network to help find a job. The seminar is from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. April 24. Professional Cover Letters and Resumes: three workshops will teach participants how to write proper cover letters and resumes.

COLLEGE PARK - The man who is often called the best journalist in America is about to prepare his 10 graduate students for their final exam. At the seminar table, Eugene L. Roberts Jr. attends to minor business: the date for the traditional dinner at his home in Woodley Park, the time for his guest speaker, the introduction of a visiting prospective student. The table is so big and the room so small that Roberts stands to let late-arriving graduate students pass around him to the other side.

Strong sales of Jos. A. Bank Clothiers Inc.'s sportswear line and increased production overseas have led the Hampstead-based men's apparel company to add two top management positions. Thomas Teves, who previously managed $285 million in retail sales and 61 stores for North Carolina-based Belk Department Stores, was hired for the new position of vice president and general merchandise manager of sportswear and furnishings. Frank Barbarino was promoted to the new position of divisional vice president of worldwide sourcing, Bank said.

A part of Carroll County's retail history ended Thursday when the county's first chain department store changed its name from Leggett to Belk.Despite a name change after 32 years in Westminster, the department store's longtime customers will find a family tie to Leggett's earliest days in Westminster.Carl Rosen Jr., Belk's assistant manager, is the son of the manager of the original Leggett store at the Westminster Shopping Center on Route 140. Carl Rosen Sr. retired from Leggett in 1985 before the store moved to Cranberry Mall.

A Fells Point woman whose 9-year-old dog was in her car when it was stolen Monday night was reunited with her pet after it was found in the yard of a Baltimore home Kelly Belk rarely travels beyond Fells Point, where she lives, and Hampden, where she works. But on Monday night, Belk decided to meet friends at a Pikesville crab house for an all-you-can-eat special. Belk took Matilda, a 9-year-old Rottweiler and German shepherd mix. "When I was leaving for dinner, she gave me the stink eye. It was like, 'You better take me with you,'" Belk said Thursday.
