As of 9 a.m. Thursday, traffic was slow on the inner loop of I-695 near Belair Road, due to an accident. Accidents were slowing traffic on the outer loop of I-695 near Greenspring Avenue in Baltimore County, on U.S. 40 eastbound near I-695 in Baltimore County and on Eastern Boulevard near White Marsh Boulevard in Baltimore County. There were no major delays on Baltimore area transit systems.

Belair Road has been closed in both directions for more than an hour this evening after a southbound vehicle went airborne after striking an SUV, killing an unidentified man and injuring two others, Baltimore Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright said. The accident took place about 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Ravenwood Avenue when the driver of the southbound car, described as a coupe, crossed into oncoming traffic, Cartwright said. One man in the coupe was pronounced dead on the scene and another was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Water service has been restored around 4 p.m. to about 50 homes and a half-dozen retail businesses in the Nottingham section of Baltimore County. Baltimore Public Works spokesman Kurt Kocher said a broken 12-inch water main was discovered about 5 a.m. Tuesday on the north side of Belair Road between Dunfield Road and Klosterman Avenue. The northbound lanes of Belair Road will remain closed between Dunfield Road and Klosterman Avenue until weather conditions permit resurfacing of the road, he said.

Homicide detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a woman Friday evening in the Belair-Edison neighborhood of Northeast Baltimore, police said. The woman was shot at 6:20 p.m. in the 2600 block of Kentucky Ave., Baltimore police said in a statement. Officers were called to a home on a report of a gunshot, and went inside to check on the occupants. Police said they found an adult woman dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head. Police have no word on suspects or motive; they have asked anyone with information to contact them at 410-396-2100.

Martha Viola Langenfelder, who owned and managed a Perry Hall trailer park, died of unknown causes in her sleep Tuesday at the Heron Point Retirement Community in Chestertown. The former Baltimore County resident was 96. Born in Raspeburg in Baltimore County, she was the daughter of farmers Henry and Anuska Ann Langenfelder. She attended Rosedale Elementary School and began working on the family farm after graduating from the eighth grade. In 1936, she married a distant cousin, Conrad John Langenfelder, whom she met at a church event.

A 17-year-old girl died and two other teenagers suffered critical injuries after a stolen car in which they were riding crashed into a tree Thursday night on Belair Road, according to Baltimore police. Lishinia Miller, 17, was one of four occupants in the 1991 four-door Lexus at the time of the crash, reported at 8:47 p.m. in the 1900 block of Belair Road, between East North Avenue and Sinclair Lane. She was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where she was pronounced dead just before midnight, police spokesman Detective Kevin Brown said.

The Belair Edison neighborhood was awarded $31,100 to develop a design for a heavily traveled portion of Erdman Avenue to green the street and control polluted runoff. The neighborhood will work with partners, including business owners, residents and environmental groups on the plan for the grant, administered through the Chesapeake Bay Trust, an independent grant-making organization chartered by the state. The program, paid for by the Trust and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, was created to support street greening projects by urban communities.
