Alfred G. "Ted" Marshall, a retired educator and basketball coach in Baltimore and Harford counties, died Monday of a heart attack at his Bel Air home. He was 74. The son of a pipe fitter and a homemaker, Alfred Grady Marshall, who was known as Ted, was born and raised in Johnstown, Pa. He was a 1958 graduate of Westmont Hilltop High School and enrolled at the University of Maryland, College Park, where he earned a bachelor's degree in 1962 and played basketball for the Terps for four years.

The Bel Air Boys 11U basketball team won the Harford County 11-12 Travel Championship. The boys had a great season, finishing first place in the regular season and winning the 11U Harford County Travel tournament exhibiting sportsmanship and teamwork.

A section of Shamrock Park in Bel Air may end up getting some major upgrades, or at least town officials are talking about the possibility. Some of the early discussion includes installing additional playground equipment, defined pathways and shade trees on either side of the Humbert Amphitheater, and all of these suggestions deserve the full attention of the Board of Town Commissioners. There's good reason to want to keep Shamrock Park in top shape. It's one of the crown jewels of a top-flight municipal park system in Bel Air. The maintenance of park space is a municipal responsibility on par with keeping streets and sewers up to standard and providing police protection.

SAVANNAH COLLEGE OF ART AND DESIGN: Local residents have been named to the Dean's List at the Savannah College of Art and Design for fall quarter 2012. Full-time undergraduate students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 or above for the quarter receive recognition on the dean's list. Local residents include: Jessalyn Babcock of White Hall; Heather Harvey of Forest Hill; Andrew Lhotsky of Bel Air; Julie Miller of Forest Hill; and Danielle Riseley of Churchville.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office is seeking a woman in connection with the use of stolen credit cards at local drug stores and eateries in the Bel Air and Edgewood areas. The suspect may be driving a white Lexus or Infiniti or a green Mazda, the Sheriff's Office said. Surveillance photos of the woman and the two vehicles were released to the media Friday by the Sheriff's Office. Anyone with information regarding the suspect in the photo is encouraged to contact Det. Chris Rothlingshofer of the Sheriff's Office, 443-409-3328.

Brady Daniels Kautsch, 17 of Bel Air, earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award, on Dec. 13, 2012 and was formally recognized in a ceremonial Court of Honor on March 17, at the Church of St. Mark - Monsignor McCall Center in Fallston. A member of Troop 801, Kautsch is one of approximately 4 percent of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to Scoutmaster Steve Martinek. To earn scouting's highest award, each candidate must earn 21 merit badges -- some required, some elective -- and successfully coordinate and complete a community-related service project.

April arrived today, and with it comes a busy month for activities in the Town of Bel Air, including Kite Day, the opening of the Saturday farmers market and some popular annual fundraising events. In addition, this April a couple of highly visible public art projects will be installed in town. Work is expected to begin this week on a wall mural to be painted on the Sheriff's Office Headquarters building overlooking the town's new Main Street parking lot. The sheriff's building mural will be painted by Marshall Adams, who was delayed in getting started last week by the weather, town officials said.

John Lurz of Bel Air has been promoted continuing care administrator Oak Crest retirement community. Previously, Lurz served as the assisted living manager at the Erickson Living community in northeast Baltimore County. Lurz brings 15 years of health care administration to his new leadership position. With Oak Crest since 2010, he has been a licensed nursing home administrator for more than six years. The extended care neighborhood at Oak Crest provides assisted living, respite care, post-acute rehabilitation and nursing care and outpatient rehabilitation services.
