For most Canton residents, the unassuming Hudson Street Stackhouse is the ultimate neighborhood bar for beer-loving hockey fans: It proudly supports the Washington Capitals. But the Stackhouse also makes an ideal place to watch a Ravens game. First and foremost, the Stackhouse - located near Safeway and sandwiched between rowhouses - is instantly comfortable. With its concrete floor, exposed brick walls and tin ceiling, the Stackhouse eschews a cheesy theme or flashy design, instead favoring a laid-back atmosphere that feels inviting and low-pressure.

Heavy Seas Beer, which earned high marks from b's Top 20 Maryland Beers list last month, has major plans for 2013. At the top of the list, at least to this beer drinker, is the Halethorpe-based brewery's "preliminary" decision to distribute its beers in cans, including Loose Cannon, Davy Jones' Lager and an Oktoberfest style. The cans' availability has yet to be determined, according to spokeswoman Jenn Ladd. There's also a planned overhaul of Heavy Seas' line of Mutiny Fleet beers.

You have seen the changes, the tectonic shifts, in journalism. Copy editors are now so scarce that drawings of us will soon be included in books about fabulous beasts like the unicorn and the basilisk. Word came out today that Newsweek , despite the machinations of that one-trick pony Tina Brown, will cease print publication at year's end, maintaining a ghostly existence in pixels. But nothing has brought home a...

It's 1:15 on a warm and sunny fall afternoon in Canton, and the downstairs bar and lounge area of the Fork & Wrench is packed with about 30 people. No, it's not an office party or a surge of late lunchgoers waiting for a table upstairs at the Boston Street hotspot. There's a TV commercial being made, and instead of the usual cool, dark ambience, the scene is one of lights, cables, clutter and a large camera standing in the center of the room locked down and focused on a bottle of beer in the middle of a spectacular wooden bar. Standing alongside the camera is Jim Bartolomeo, the camerman/director whose resume includes working on the first season of HBO's “The Sopranos” and Barry Levinson's feature film “Sleepers.” Scattered throughout the room in blue jeans, T-shirts, work shirts and baseball caps are crew members who have earned their stripes on Baltimore-based series such as NBC's “Homicide: Life on the Street” and HBO's “The Wire.” But all that matters here is the beer.

Is there a better Baltimore corner bar (actually located on a corner) than Kisling's Tavern? It's the type of bar Baltimoreans will always love - unassuming, no frills, just delicious, greasy bar food and an ample beer selection. Walk into the Canton spot on any given night and you'll likely see a mix of social sports league teams, old-time regulars and satisfied chicken-wing lovers. Kisling's takes its wings seriously, offering more than a dozen flavors, ranging from Asian Ginger to Honey Dijon.
