REGINA, Saskatchewan -- Charlie Baumann wasn't perfect, but he was good enough to get a second chance. The Baltimore CFLs' new place-kicker made two field goals in a 35-18 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders yesterday -- but missed a 22-yard chip shot with the wind in the second quarter.A week ago, a missed 22-yard field-goal attempt by Donald Igwebuike cost the CFLs a 30-29 loss to the Sacramento Gold Miners and ultimately cost Igwebuike his job."I think that's our tough range," Baltimore coach Don Matthews said yesterday.

I've heard that bedbugs are being reintroduced in the United States by travelers returning from other countries. When I travel, I always drop a few mothballs in my luggage and use them in closets or drawers. Does this help? Probably not, said Greg Baumann, senior scientist at the National Pest Management Association, a trade group. Although he said he couldn't rule out mothballs' effectiveness, he's not aware of any studies that have been done. Bedbugs are making a comeback internationally and domestically.

Scratch Charlie Baumann as the Baltimore CFLs' long-term answer to Donald Igwebuike. And say hello to Don Silvestri and Daron Alcorn. The CFLs' kicking game got more curious yesterday when coach Don Matthews cut Baumann one day after he missed his second 22-yard field goal in two games. In his brief Baltimore stint, Baumann made six of 10 field goal tries, missing from distances of 22, 34 and 36 yards. To find a replacement, Baltimore will bring in Silvestri and Alcorn, both cut by NFL teams this summer, to compete with punter Josh Miller for the job.Twelve weeks into the season, it's back to training camp for the kickers.
