Tevon Saddler St. Frances, senior, guard The 6-foot-5, 205-pound versatile guard constantly served as a mismatch for opponents as he led the No. 2 Panthers (33-6) to the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference championship. In his fourth varsity season -- two at Aberdeen before coming to St. Frances -- Saddler averaged 19 points, seven rebounds and three assists as the Panthers finished in first place in the regular season in both the MIAA A Conference and Baltimore Catholic League.

The senior guard, a four-year varsity player and three-year starter, saved his absolute best for the final second of his high school career. Walker beat the buzzer with a driving layup in Saturday's Class 2A state championship game to give the Red Storm (22-5) a 56-54 win over Wicomico for the program's first title. Walker, an All-Metro first-team selection as a junior, finished the title game with 15 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four steals. In the team's 60-56 semifinal win over Oakdale, from Frederick County, on Friday, Walker had similar heroics in the second overtime.

Justin Black had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists, helping fifth-seeded Morgan State beat eighth-seeded Bethune-Cookman, 82-71, in the semifinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament on Friday night at Norfolk (Va.) Scope Arena. Shaquille Duncan came off the bench and had 17 points and six rebounds for Morgan State (17-14), which will play No. 7 North Carolina A&T in today's championship game. Senior forward Dewayne Jackson also scored 16 points for the Bears.

Former Baltimore prep basketball star Aquille Carr plans to pursue a professional career overseas instead of playing at Seton Hall next season, he announced Saturday evening after he scored 52 points in his final high school game. Carr, who played his senior season at Princeton Day Academy in Laurel, had strongly hinted at his intentions in an interview last month and again in a series of tweets last week. He verbally committed to Seton Hall early last year and maintained all along that if he played in college, that would be his destination.

Justin Black made big baskets at the end of regulation and overtime, helping fifth-seeded Morgan State beat fourth-seeded Savannah State, 64-61, in the quarterfinals of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference tournament Thursday night at Norfolk (Va.) Scope Arena. Black scored 20 points for the Bears (16-14), who will play eighth-seeded Bethune-Cookman in today's semifinals. Bethune-Cookman ousted top-seeded Norfolk State, the MEAC's regular-season champion, 70-68 in overtime Wednesday.
