Music discussion Gabriela Lena Frank, a Latin Grammy winner and the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra's composer-in-residence, and Jose Louis Novos, the orchestra's music director and conductor, will lead "A Conversation about Creativity, Collaboration and Innovation" at noon Feb. 27 in Anne Arundel Community College's Cade Center for the Fine Arts, Room 224, on the Arnold campus, 101 College Parkway. Topics will include inspiration, creativity, gender issues, education and innovation.

Youth basketball Registration is open for the Elkridge Youth Organization's winter basketball league. The co-ed program is for players ages 5-18. All games are played at Elkridge-area schools. There are no tryouts, and everyone is given substantial playing time. Registration ends Thursday, Oct. 31. According to the nursery rhyme, there was a farmer who had a dog, and Bingo was his name. Make plans to head over to Level Volunteer Fire Hall on Friday, Aug. 16 with this song in your thoughts and the homeless and neglected animals of Harford County in your heart. The Humane Society of Harford County is hosting a fun-filled Basket Bingo to raise funds for the thousands of animals it shelters each year. Doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m. inside the fire hall at 3633 Level Village Road in Havre de Grace.

A basket bingo to benefit the Ladies Auxiliary of the Savage Volunteer Fire Company is planned for 7 p.m. March 11 at the Savage Volunteer Fire Company fire hall, 8925 Lincoln St. Doors and the kitchen open at 5 p.m. Admission is $15 in advance; $17 at the door, if tickets are available. The price includes 20 games and door prizes. Two jackpot games are extra. Raffles for a gourmet picnic set and corner hamper with a lid are also planned. Children are welcome if they pay admission. The Glenelg High School Booster Club will sponsor a Choir and Orchestra Basket Bingo at 7 p.m. today at the Freedom fire hall in Sykesville. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Refreshments will be served in lieu of dinner. Baskets filled with gifts will be given as prizes. Door prizes are also planned. Members of the school's staff will be on hand. Admission is $15 in advance; $20 at the door, if tickets are still available. Twenty games of bingo are included, as well as three special games and several raffles.

The Atholton High School Music Boosters will hold the third Longaberger Basket Bingo at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in the school cafeteria, 6520 Freetown Road. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. A filled Longaberger basket or pottery item will be awarded to the winner of each game, and three filled Longaberger baskets will be raffled. A cake raffle is also planned, and food will be sold. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 at the door and include 20 regular bingo games (three cards per game.) Extra cards will be available for purchase.

COLLECTORS LURED by handmade household baskets are purchasing tickets to Fall Basket Bingo and Silent Auction on Oct. 12 at Shiloh Middle School. Nine baskets are "retired" styles by the Longaberger company. The bakery basket, bread basket, large recipe basket, daily blessings baskets and pumpkin basket will be filled for prizes valued at at least $50. The odds and ends basket, when filled with gifts, will be valued at at least $300. "One thing we were really proud of and excited about is the community support and involvement," said Karen Donaldson, PTO president.

All you can eat breakfast will be served this Saturday, April 13, from 7 to 10 a.m. at Harmony Lodge, Tome Highway, Port Deposit. Events supports the scholarship fund. The second annual Cody G. Richardson Relentless Run 5K and 3K fun walk will be June 1 at Perryville Middle School. The event benefits the Cody G. Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund. Registration and packet pick up starts at 8 a.m. with the runners taking off at 9 a.m. and walkers at 9:05. There will be a cash prize for the first place male and female finishers.

In her first year as a member of the Hot Shots 4-H club, Ilana Rouse, 8, has shot a shot gun, an air rifle, and a .22-caliber rifle. But she hasn't fired a muzzle loader, at least not yet. The reason is simple. "I think it is very loud," Ilana said. With more than 60 members — and a waiting list — the Carroll County 4-H Hot Shots chapter offers its youth members all the traditional projects associated with 4-H, from livestock to gardening to baking. But it also has a special focus: shooting.

Western Howard County's Relay For Life, the overnight fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will hold a team meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville. The theme for the meeting is "You Are the Heart of Relay," and information about Relay for Life will be provided. Everyone is welcome. Friends and relatives of cancer survivors, religious organizations, service clubs, schools and the public are invited to form teams, which raise money during the year for the event.

The Kiwanis Club of Columbia will join with the Oakland Mills Community Association in supporting an early childhood dental clinic from 9 a.m. to noon May 16 at The Other Barn in the Oakland Mills Village Center. The clinic is sponsored by Parents As Teachers, a parent education and support program of the Howard County Office of Children's Services. Children can receive a free dental examination and a free application of fluoride. The Kiwanis Club has selected Stephanie Hunter, a senior at Oakland Mills High School, as Teenager of the Year.
