As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, traffic was slow on the outer loop of I-695 near the Baltimore National Pike, due to an accident. Accidents were slowing traffic on the outer loop of I-695 near Falls Road in Baltimore County, Route 97 near Route 140 in Westminster, I-95 southbound near White Marsh Boulevard in Baltimore County, Route 40 near Red Toad Road in Harford County and Route 30 and the Hampstead Bypass in Hampstead. A disabled vehicle was slowing traffic on the outer loop of I-695 near Liberty Road.

A 39-year-old woman died Saturday of injuries she suffered three months ago when struck by a car in Catonsville, Baltimore County police said Sunday. Laurie Ann Smith of the 2500 block of W.Pratt St.was struck and pinned against a wall by a Honda Odyssey driven by Andrew Dolbey, 42, on Dec. 23, police said. Dolbey, of the 7100 block of Ducketts Lane in Elkridge, was heading west on Rolling Road and attempting to turn left onto Baltimore National Pike when he lost control of his car, drove over a curb and struck Smith, police said.

Sears' store in Ellicott City is slated to be closed. The retailer announced the names of 79 stores set to be closed. Another 41 Sears and Kmart stores could be closed.  One Maryland store at 9200 Baltimore National Pike made the list.  Sears Holding Corp. did not give a date for the closure. The retailer recently announced it was closing up to 120 Sears and Kmart stores after disappointing holiday sales.

Music & Arts has been part of Chatham Station shopping center in Ellicott City for more than 20 years, but the shop reintroduced itself back in June with a grand ribbon-cutting and reopening to show off a major remodeling. The store, which continues to specialize in instrument rentals, music lessons and band and orchestra instrument sales, now boasts a refreshed interior. The customers' experience played a role in the decision to give the store a makeover, according to David Fuhr, Music & Arts' vice president of retail.

— The lanky Ellicott City teenager and Pakistani citizen walked into the federal courtroom here on Monday dressed in an olive drab, one-piece prison jumpsuit, his hands cuffed behind his back, and muttered barely two words during his arraignment on terrorism charges — "not guilty. " And with that, the public proceeding began for one of the country's youngest people charged with aiding a terrorist. A U.S. District Court judge ordered Mohammad Massan Khalid detained until his trial, scheduled for Dec. 13, and defense attorneys asked for a hearing next month to find an alternate holding facility for their young client.
