Interstate 70 starts its eastward course near Old Cove Fort in Utah, crosses the mighty Rockies by tunneling under Colorado's 11,990-foot-high Loveland Pass, traverses the Great Plains and meanders through the rolling hills of Pennsylvania before dipping into Maryland. And there, after a heroic journey of 2,153 miles, it comes to an inglorious end: a park-and-ride lot just inside the Baltimore Beltway. That could change under a plan being considered by two state agencies to lop off, or severely truncate, I-70's awkward two-mile vestige inside the Beltway.

As of 9:30 a.m. Friday, traffic was slow on northbound I-83 past the Baltimore Beltway, due to an accident. As of 9 a.m., traffic was slow on the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway at York Road, due to a collision involving four vehicles. As of 9 a.m. Monday, traffic was slow on the inner loop of the Baltimore Beltway at I-95, due to an accident. Accidents were blocking traffic at northbound I-95 prior to Exit 64, U.S. 1 (Conowingo Road) at Allibone Road in Harford County, Old Court Road at Winands Road in Baltimore City, and at northbound 702 near the Baltimore Beltway. A disabled vehicle was blocking traffic on eastbound U.S. 50 at the Bay Bridge. There were no major delays reported on Baltimore area mass transit systems.

As of 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, traffic was slow on the outer loop of the Baltimore Beltway near Dulaney Valley Road due to a crash. State police said one of the victims was pregnant. An ambulance took the woman to Greater Baltimore Medical Center, and a hospital spokesman said she not yet given birth. Accidents were slowing traffic on northbound I-97 past U.S. 50; I-95 north near the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, and eastbound I-70 near Marriottsville Road. Traffic was slow on southbound Jarrettsville Pike at Manor Road due to debris in the road.
