The Bears had to give goalie Dominic Roussel back to the Philadelphia Flyers but got Tim Cheveldae. Cheveldae had won 141 games in the NHL (Detroit and Winnipeg) starting the season. The Bandits are 1-5-2 on Sundays.

The Washington Capitals will wrap up their 1991 preseason schedule with back-to-back games against the Philadelphia Flyers, including one at the Baltimore Arena, the team announced yesterday.The Capitals will play the Flyers at the Baltimore Arena on Sept. 28 at 8 p.m. and at the Spectrum the next day at 7 p.m.Washington's only preseason game at the Capital Centre will be Sept. 27 at 7:30 p.m. against the Buffalo Sabres.The Capitals also will play the Hartford Whalers and the New York Rangers twice and Buffalo three times during preseason.

Baltimore, which is playing its final home game, is in second place in the standings, 1 1/2 games behind Philadelphia and Boston. The Thunder has not defeated the Wings at Baltimore Arena since sweeping them in two games in 1987, but Baltimore beat Philadelphia in a preseason scrimmage and the Thunder has won its past three, including a 14-10 win over Rochester in its previous outing.

Inclement weather forced the postponement of yesterday's Fuel Fund Classic at the Baltimore Arena.Three boys and two girls games, including a matchup between Dunbar's second-ranked boys team and No. 4-ranked Woodlawn, were scheduled.Proceeds from the event were to have benefited the Fuel Fund of Central Maryland, which assists needy area families in paying fuel costs."We've been planning this for a year, but what can you do?," said Joni Scholwin, Fuel Fund Classic planning committee chairwoman.

Single-game tickets for University of Maryland home football games go on sale today at the Baltimore Arena box office, including tickets for the Terps' game against Penn State at Memorial Stadium Nov. 9.The Terps open the season in refurbished Byrd Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 7, against Virginia at noon. Other games in College Park are Sept. 14 vs. Syracuse (7 p.m.), Sept. 21 vs. West Virginia (4 p.m.) and Oct. 26 vs. Duke (homecoming, 1:30 p.m.).Tickets can be purchased at the Baltimore Arena by cash or check only.

Baltimore halted a 3-game losing streak Sunday with a 3-2 victory over New Haven. Springfield, which won last season's series, 3-2-1, has LW Yvon Corriveau and C Terry Yake, formerly of the Washington organization.
