HEAVER, PHILIP A., SR., 90, died February 18, 2006 in Newtown Square, PA. He is survived by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and loving fiance. A private graveside service will be held at West Laurel Hill Cemetery, 215 Belmont Avenue, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004 Friday, March 3, 2006. A celebration of his life will be held at Newtown Square Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 4, 2006, 11:30 AM.

He went from the humble role of clipping newspaper stories about the Los Angeles Rams and dutifully placing them into a team scrapbook, which was his first paid job in professional football, to becoming one of the most important, influential and recognized figures in the history of the game. The extraordinary saga of Alvin Pete Rozelle found him taking the rough edges off the sport and leading it into the boardrooms of corporate America.He had few parallels in any business and was the most progressive, eloquent and productive of all commissioners.

Manager failure: Many newly promoted executives struggle and fail because they don't build partnerships with their subordinates and peers, says Manchester Consulting, a Bala Cynwyd, Pa.-based firm. Four in 10 newly promoted managers perform significantly below expectations in the first 18 months in their new positions, resign, or are terminated, according to the survey of 800 human resources managers. Other problems the mangers have include being unclear about what their bosses expect of them, lacking political savvy, taking too long to learn their jobs and not balancing work and family.

Henry C. Ritz, retired vice president for sales of the Baltimore Paint and Chemical Co., died of cancer Sunday at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center. He was 84 and lived in the Dulaney Towers Condominiums and Apartments.A mass of Christian burial for Mr. Ritz was being offered today in the chapel at the Stella Maris Hospice, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road.He retired from the paint and chemical company about 18 years ago, ending a career that began when he went to work as a youth for the Murphy Varnish Co. in Newark, N.J., a predecessor of Baltimore Paint and Chemical.

Sinclair Broadcast Group Inc. said yesterday that it has agreed to sell seven radio stations in Portland, Ore., and Rochester, N.Y., to Entertainment Communications Inc. for $126.5 million in cash.The seven are part of a package of six television and 24 radio stations Sinclair has agreed to buy from Heritage Media Corp. for million.Sinclair has agreed to sell some of the Heritage stations, such as a television station in Oklahoma City, because of federal concentration-of-media regulations.
