A Baltimore circuit judge denied another bail request Friday for the blogger who held a publicized standoff with city police this month that was broadcast live to thousands of listeners. Judge Lynn K. Stewart said Frank James MacArthur, also known locally as the Baltimore Spectator, posed a continuing threat to public safety and should remain jailed without bail. It was the third time that MacArthur, 37, who lives in the Waverly neighborhood, has been denied bail. MacArthur's attorney, Jill P. Carter, called the revocation a knee-jerk overreaction when many other suspects facing similar charges are often offered bail.

Victor Levi Colbert allegedly stabbed Rodney Smith to death in Smith's Bel Air apartment, an assistant state's attorney said during Smith's bail review hearing Wednesday in Harford County District Court. Colbert, whose turned 31 on Dec. 3, was arrested Tuesday morning at his home in Dundalk and charged in the death of Mr. Smith, 52, whose body was found Sunday in his home at 204 A Baltimore Pike in Bel Air. Colbert is charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.

At a lively Central Booking hearing, a Baltimore judge denied bail to Frank James MacArthur, the local blogger who live-streamed a standoff with police on the Internet, two days after a different judge ordered him to be released. MacArthur, 47, appeared Wednesday dressed in a yellow jumpsuit, his head shaved and his hands cuffed behind his back. District Judge Joan B. Gordon pointed to MacArthur's criminal history and apparent "violent and assaultive nature" as reasons for denying bail on gun charges filed against him late Monday.

A Big Boyz bail bondsman has been banned from Central Booking after an exchange with jail staff, a move his attorney says was unnecessary. According to the City Paper, which first reported the ban, Ethan Nochumowitz was barred from entering the booking facility effective Oct. 5 because security officials said they were conducting an internal investigation into an incident that had occurred involving him and staff. Big Boyz is one of the biggest bond companies in the area, and perhaps best known for flooding the region with its pink and yellow pens.

Robert W. Gladden Jr. "expected to be killed" on the day he allegedly shot a fellow student at Perry Hall High School, according to his lawyers, who said the teen remains on suicide watch in jail. The comments came on the day of the 15-year-old Gladden's first court appearance since the incident; his morning bail hearing was postponed after his attorneys requested more time to secure and examine recent mental health evaluations. Gladden did not speak in court, but kept his head down, letting his long dark hair hang in his face.

One of the great summer pleasures that comes with living in Maryland is the opportunity to get on a boat and paddle, motor or sail your way around the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Few places in the U.S. are better suited for boating, and the state's geographic blessing has produced economic rewards for its citizens - an estimated 35,000 jobs produced by a $2 billion industry. But these are not the best of times for those in the boating industry. The economic recession of 2007 hit hard, and the recovery has been slow.

The woman who police said fired off a handgun "indiscriminately" to head off an armed robbery in Bolton Hill has been released on $35,000 bail after she was charged with handgun violations and shooting on a public street. Keyna Oduyoye, 30, of Randallstown, and accompanied her boyfriend to the quiet city neighborhood to purchase a car listed on Craigslist. When they arrived, Oduyoye told police the couple was robbed. She told police she grabbed a .40 caliber Beretta from the glove compartment of her car and fired a warning shot in the air. The gunman dropped his weapon, she told police, according to court charging documents, and then she chased the man up the street firing three times in the air. Gun rights advocates say that this case is a perfect example of how restrictive gun carry permits -- the weapons was legally registered but she did not the permit needed to carry it -- need to be relaxed in Maryland.

Proceedings in Florida's case against George Zimmerman for the tragic shooting death of Trayvon Martin have recently provided an object lesson in how the institution of bail is supposed to work - but almost never does. Last week, George Zimmerman's wife was charged with perjury for lying at her husband's bail hearing in April - she testified that the couple was broke, which prompted the court to set a low bond. But since then prosecutors have alleged that, at the time of the hearing, the Zimmermans had in fact raised over $100,000 for the defense.

A grand jury indicted two operators of a prescription drug clinic in Timonium arrested in a Tuesday raid on charges of conspiracy to distribute Schedule II narcotics. A Baltimore County Circuit Court judge set a $50,000 cash-only bail Thursday for Gerald Wiseberg of Boca Raton, Fla., and Michael Jacob Reznikov of Brooklyn, N.Y., operators at the Healthy Life Medical Group in the 1100 block of York Road. At a preliminary hearing, Wiseberg, 78, and Reznikov, 51, were prohibited from leaving the country and were ordered to give up their passports.

Anne Arundel County Police arrested a Lothian man and charged him in connection with a multi-vehicle crash in Annapolis on Sunday in which an officer was struck. Police located Leo Lamont Carroll about noon Monday and arrested him. He was later released on bail. Police say Carroll was driving the Acura RL that caused a three-car accident on Aris T. Allen Boulevard about 9:17 p.m. Sunday. Carroll is being charged with multiple traffic-related violations, including failure to remain at the scene of an accident and failure to help injured motorists.
