Lawyers for John T. Titus, who was charged last week with killing his estranged wife at her Hampstead home, have accused state police of coercing a statement from their client while refusing to allow him to have his prescribed medicine or to call his attorneys.Titus is being held without bail at the Carroll County Detention Center on a charge of first-degree murder.Gary S. Bernstein and Susan R. Green, who represented Titus at a bail review hearing yesterday, told District Judge JoAnn M. Elling-haus-Jones that Cpl. Ronald Cullison, a state police detective assigned to the Westminster barracks, violated their client's Miranda rights to have them present during questioning.

As family members of a slain North Laurel woman prepared for her funeral, a Howard County District Court judge yesterday postponed the bail review for the man charged with killing her until he gets a psychiatric evaluation.Three buses containing most of Maryland's 47 senators are expected to go to the funeral today of Barbara Susan Dorman -- the 36-year-old daughter of their colleague, state Sen. Arthur Dorman, a 21st District Democrat from Prince George's County.Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. at Beth Torah Synagogue in the 6700 block of Adelphi Road in Hyattsville.

Steven Valltos, 16, of Largo, Fla., one of three teen-agers charged in the armed robbery of the Carrolltown Veterinary Hospital on Feb. 28, has been ordered held on $100,000 bail after a bail review hearing.Jeffrey J. Taylor, 18, of Stevensville, and Adrian Rhyanes, 18, of Centreville also were charged in the robbery.Mr. Rhyanes was arrested at his home in March and released on $100,000 bond.Mr. Taylor remains at the Carroll County Detention Center on $100,000 bail.State police say three youths, one of them armed with an Uzi-type automatic weapon, burst into the veterinary center in the 1800 block of Liberty Road about 2 p.m. Feb. 28 and forced one of four employees to place 15 bottles of Ketamine in a bag.Officers said the drug, known as "Special K," was in liquid form but that it can be converted to a powder form and snorted or smoked.

A Severn woman suspected of stabbing and killing her husband during a domestic quarrel Sunday evening will be presented for a bail review today in Annapolis District Court.Merle Denise Thomas, 32, of the 1800 block of Arwell Court is being held in the Anne Arundel County jail on $350,000 bail. She has been charged with second-degree murder.The victim, Steven Bernard Thomas, 32, was stabbed once in the chest about 6:30 p.m. Sunday. Paramedics took him to Kimbrough Army Hospital at Fort Meade, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 16-year-old East Baltimore boy was arrested yesterday and charged as an adult with the fatal shooting of another teen last October following a dispute over a girl, police said.Edward Tillery, of the 1900 block of E. Chase St., is charged with killing Jermaine L. McMillian, 17, a ninth grade student at Lake Clifton High School who lived in the 2000 block of E. Hoffman St. He is due to appear today at a bail review hearing in District Court.Young Tillery was arrested at his home around 7 a.m. yesterday by homicide detectives and Eastern District police on a warrant charging him with first-degree murder.

A psychologist has found a Lansdowne man accused of fatally shooting his former girlfriend last week competent to stand trial.But a District Court judge did not hold a bail hearing for Gregory Edward Byrd yesterday because his lawyer did not appear in court.Mr. Byrd, 29, of the 1700 block of Wilson Ave., said he would wait for attorney Michael E. A Silver Spring man wanted in the abductions and rapes of women in Mount Airy and Dayton was held without bail this weekend at the Howard County Detention Center.A District Court commissioner set no bail for the suspect, William K. Price, of the 2800 block of Harford Road.Mr. Price, according to police, is charged with killing Stacey Platt, 26, of the 2700 block of E. Preston St., during an argument Saturday night in the victim's home.
