Arthur and Megan Greitzer, of Audubon, Pa., announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Greitzer, to Cody Boswell, son of James Boswell, of Elkridge, and Carol Boswell, of Laurel. The bride is a graduate of Methacton High School in Norristown, Pa. The groom is a 2001 graduate of Howard High School. An August wedding is planned in Hershey, Pa., with a honeymoon in the Bahamas. The couple currently reside in Hummelstown, Pa.

The Washington Bullets will play two games against the world champion Chicago Bulls to highlight their eight-game preseason schedule in October.They face Michael Jordan and the Bulls in Birmingham, Ala., Oct. 18, and meet again four days later in Knoxville, Tenn.There will also be a homecoming for coach Wes Unseld, center/forward Pervis Ellison and rookie guard LaBradford Smith when the Bullets play the Utah Jazz at Freedom Hall in Louisville. All three are Louisville graduates.The itinerary begins Oct. 13 with a game against the New York Knicks at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, N.Y. The Bullets will travel to the Bahamas Oct. 20 to play the Miami Heat.

Capsules of yesterday's events on the second day of the Pan American Games:CYCLINGThe four-member American team of Jeanne Golay, Shari Rodgers, Jan Bolland and Dede Demet won a gold medal in the women's 50-kilometer cycling event time trial. The women's victory established a Pan American record with a time of 1:03:53. The women's team time trial is new to the Games this year.The American men finished third behind Cuba and Colombia in the 100-kilometer race. The Cubans and Colombians had the same final time, but the tiebreaker (tenths of seconds)

After an uncharacteristic 9-14 season a year ago, the Washington College men's basketball team is trying to turn things around this season.A pair of South Carroll grads, sophomore Geoff Rupert and junior Dan Dutton, are quietly helping the Shoremen get back on top of theMiddle Atlantic Conference Southeast Section.Last year's rebuilding effort snapped a streak of 10 winning seasons, which included eight MAC playoff appearances.This season, the Shoremen are coming off a successful trip to the Bahamas -- where they finished third in the Goombay Shootout -- and are looking to challenge for the conference title.

Veronica Keith and her daughter Ashley woke up early Sunday morning to shovel their Hyattsville driveway, as they had a Bahamas cruise to make and no record-setting blizzard was going to ruin it. "I'm one of the lucky ones," said Veronica Keith, a 60-year-old retiree who bought her daughter the cruise, which departed yesterday, as a Christmas gift. "I'm escaping the snow. I wouldn't want to miss this cruise for anything in the world." Catherine Gonzalez and Teresa Punjwani didn't consider themselves so lucky.
