A former nursing assistant has pleaded guilty to one count of abuse of a vulnerable adult for slapping a resident at Millennium Health and Rehabilitation Center at Liberty Heights in Northwest Baltimore, the Maryland Attorney General's office announced yesterday.Polla Darlene Bagwell, 41, of the 3400 block of Reisterstown Road slapped a 66-year-old man when he pulled away from her while she was assisting him, according to Attorney General J. Joseph Curran Jr.Bagwell pleaded guilty Thursday and city District Judge Norman E. Johnson Jr. ordered her to serve 12 months of unsupervised probation, perform 50 hours of community service and take no part in hands-on care at the nursing home for one year.

FOR WEST Columbia artist Vinnie Bagwell, finding inspiration to create her sculptures is easy. Locating the funds to finish them in bronze is the hard part. Bagwell is the featured artist this month in an exhibit at Artists' Gallery in the American City Building. "I want to make sculptures of black people just being people like anybody else, being parents, being lovers, being friends," Bagwell said. "Often my inspiration comes from real life, sometimes from photographs and sometimes it just comes from my head."

ATLANTA - Mourning the loss of a fallen friend, Jeff Bagwell and Craig Biggio finally seized their October moment. Bagwell and Biggio, teammates since 1991, put aside their grief over Ken Caminiti's death to help the Houston Astros win a playoff series for the first time in eight tries. Carlos Beltran was the leading man last night, delivering two bases-empty home runs and five RBIs in a 12-3 victory that eliminated the Atlanta Braves in the first round for the third season in a row, each time in Game 5 at Turner Field.

PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Outfielder Steve Finley frequently was injured when he played for the Orioles, but he's one of three Houston Astros who now share the second-longest consecutive game streak in the major leagues.Cal Ripken need not worry.Finley, Craig Biggio and Jeff Bagwell have played only 162 straight games.Ripken has played more than 10 times that many, a total of 1,735. He's 395 shy of Lou Gehrig's all-time record of 2,130, which he could break in mid-1995.Ripken has started every game of his streak.
