Welcome to Adam Sandler World, a happy, stupid planet where director Dennis Dugan (Problem Child, Big Daddy) enjoys the status of a Hitchcock, and Sandler himself no longer needs to make an appearance. He can hire proxy Sandlers like David Spade (career ... OVER) and Jon Heder, who proves that his booger-and-bug-eating skills were ignored in Napoleon Dynamite. The Benchwarmers, the latest from Sand- ler's Happy Madison production banner, severely tests the maxim that "There's no such thing as a bad movie about baseball."

Be Kind Rewind ends with a community get-together that's meant to be as up-with-people and ebullient as an Obama campaign stop. Too bad the movie tries to get there on a ragged wing and a doggerel prayer. Some of the smartest people around have been yearning so strongly for renewal that they take any skeptical or realistic jibe as a mortal slight. The only hope for Be Kind Rewind, a pathetic new piece of whimsy from the cult fantasist Michel Gondry, is that it taps into those inchoate expectations of change flooding the country.

There's a funny premise at the core of Are We Done Yet? Too bad the movie doesn't do much with it. A remake of the 1948 Cary Grant comedy Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, the film stars Ice Cube as Nick Persons, a newlywed father of two and would-be magazine publisher who moves his family to a big fixer-upper house in the country. The plot gets them away from the dangers of the city and gives everyone space to breathe, but gives short shrift to all manner of comic possibilities. Are We Done Yet?

You know you've got a bad movie on your hands when hardly anybody sees it, and it's still voted the worst film of the year. Jenny McCarthy's Dirty Love, a movie so bad that 40 of the 42 U.S. theaters in which it opened last September got rid of it after only one week, was the surprise winner of the Razzie for the worst film of 2005 during ceremonies Saturday night at Hollywood's Ivar Theatre. In winning the Razzie, Dirty Love was judged the worst from a list of cinematic dreck that included Son of the Mask, House of Wax, The Dukes of Hazzard and Deuce Bigelow: European Gigolo.

Are there any delights so sublime, so dependable, as those derived from watching -- and deriding -- a really bad movie? Not for Mark Colegrove, a founder and organizer of the monthly Mondo Baltimore film series . The first Thursday of every month, he and his fellow connoisseurs of cinematic dreck -- and we're talking films that are mind-numbingly bad, to the point where they may actually kill brain cells -- take over the Windup Space for...

If it were merely vulgar kitsch, then "Tales from the Crypt presents 'Bordello of Blood'" could be dismissed without much energy. Another bad movie with Dennis Miller? So what else is new?Well, there is something disturbingly new in "Bordello of Blood" perhaps worthy of contempt. In its climactic sequence, private shamus Miller breaks into the title structure and with an atomic squirt gun filled with holy water spritzes away a bunch of vampires in typically overwrought fashion. But decode the scene -- that is, strip away the narrative encryptions and reduce it to its essence, to its source of power, to its level of glee -- and you have something far more meretricious.
