An Anne Arundel County woman who had recently moved out west to have her first baby was found dead Friday in the Oregon home of a woman she might have met through Craigslist, police said. The baby also died. Heather M. Snively, 21, was eight months' pregnant with a boy and had been trying to purchase and trade baby clothes online, relatives said. Korena Elaine Roberts, 27, was charged with Snively's murder and also could face charges in the baby's death, said Sgt. David Thompson of the Washington County, Ore., Sheriff's Office.

Cuba, a 7-year-old horse sired in Maryland and bred in New Jersey, took the lead coming out of the far turn of the Jim McKay Maryland Million Classic yesterday and outraced Diamond David and defending champion Evil Storm down the stretch for a four-length victory in the feature race of a card at Laurel Park restricted to offspring of Maryland stallions. Nearly 22,000 showed up at Laurel for the 23rd running of what is considered Maryland's second-most important race day next to the Preakness, and $2.96 million was wagered at the track and elsewhere.

I am plural. My husband and I are expecting a baby boy in mid-June, but because it took us so long to get to this point, for a while it didn't seem real. Several bloggers I read frequently have noted that when you get pregnant after a struggle with infertility, at first it can feel like you're just playing the role of a mother -to-be. It was like that for me, after two years of trying. Eight home pregnancy tests, properly doubling beta blood-test results and two early ultrasounds be damned: For weeks, I felt like I was starring in some elaborate masquerade.

Jennifer Armour of Shakopee, Minn., is suing R&B star Beyonce for allegedly stealing one of her songs to produce the 2004 hit "Baby Boy." Armour's federal lawsuit, filed this week, accuses the singer of copyright infringement. "The music will definitely speak for itself," Armour said Thursday. Armour's lawyer advised her to deny all requests to hear her original song "Got a Little Bit of Love for You" which Armour says too-closely resembles Beyonce's "Baby Boy." She claims she recorded the song in early 2003 with producer Theo Forest, who then circulated the tune to record labels and other producers looking for songs.

THERE CAME a day when Justin Beckwith reached into a box of old things and discovered the secret. At first he found just baby things -- tiny articles of clothing he had worn 21 years earlier, some photographs, greeting cards, a scrapbook -- the kinds of things a mother sets aside to preserve memories from a special time in her life. Justin Beckwith knew he had been adopted as an infant, but he had never seen this small trove of souvenirs from 1980, the year Mary and Frank Beckwith of Columbia became his parents.
