Lutheran coach John Buetow expected defense and rebounding would be the Saints' tickets to the Association of Independent Schools B Division tournament title. But offense carried the Saints to a 27-24 comeback victory over top-seeded Glenelg Country School last night at the College of Notre Dame. After managing just 11 points through three quarters, the Saints (9-11) scored 16 in the fourth quarter to overpower Glenelg, which had led by eight."It wasn't a very pretty game, but in the fourth quarter I thought we played some exceptional basketball," said Buetow.

For the second time in as many seasons, a Glenelg Country School's girls team has won an Association of Independent Schools B Division regular-season championship.A 46-33 win over Lutheran Thursday gave the Dragons basketball team a 5-0 record in the league and clinched the top seed for the tournament. Overall, the Dragons are 11-3.This follows a remarkable fall season for the field hockey team, which finished 11-3-1 and took second in the B Division tournament. It is no coincidence that both teams have the same leaders, Robin Zimmerly, who scored 19 against Lutheran, and Allison Hoke.

A year could not have made a bigger difference for Glenelg Country School's field hockey team. The Dragons have staged one of the season's most amazing turnarounds, rebounding from 3-6-1 last year to post an 8-1-1 record. With yesterday's 4-0 win over defending Association of Independent Schools B Division tournament co-champion Oldfields, the Dragons remain unbeaten in the B Division through three of five league games. It was their first win ever against Oldfields.Interestingly, the seeds for Glenelg's drastic changes were sowed in last year's tournament, said Glenelg coach Patty Ordonez.

Roland Park goes after more than its fourth straight Association of Independent Schools lacrosse title this spring. The Reds are also after a place in AIS history.Last year's three-peat put the Reds in a class with Maryvale, the only other team to win three straight titles (1986-88). Now, the Reds want to be in a class by themselves. But the rest of this well-balanced league has other ideas. Last year's runner-up Mount de Sales, along with Friends, Notre Dame Prep and Bryn Mawr, appear to have the best shots at knocking off the Reds, who lost only to Mount Hebron last season.
