The Mount Airy resident was 71. The daughter of a career naval officer and a homemaker, the former Mary-Patricia Neese was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. It's unfortunate that Jerry Ashby doesn't understand that as president of the Havre de Grace Elementary School PTA, he doesn't speak for the PTA. He gathers his authority only by meeting with its members in a formal meeting and seeking authorization to go public on any topic. To do otherwise is not just a misuse of the position, but an abuse of power.I am amazed that he saw no connection even when he was questioned on this very topic at a recent PTA meeting. Certainly he has every right to speak as a private citizen, but to continually attach "PTA" to his interviews with news reporters is intentionally leading the reporters and the reader to feel the PTA is supporting his comments.

Same league, different uniform, same old result. The Orioles happened upon Andy Ashby for the second time in a week last night and once again he held open the door to an early lead that became a 4-1 loss, this time to the Atlanta Braves before 47,715 at Camden Yards. Ashby may have switched allegiance from the Philadelphia Phillies to the defending National League champions, but the angular right-hander's act against the Orioles remained predictable. After struggling through a dangerous first inning in a contest that started a half-hour late because of rain, Ashby (5-7)

When Joseph Schweitzer graduated from the Naval Academy in 1989, classmates wrote in his yearbook that the Marine Corps-bound lacrosse star would "make the world safe for democracy."But a year ago, Schweitzer was co-piloting a jet that caused one of the most gruesome peace-time disasters in U.S. military history: the deaths of 20 civilians aboard a ski resort gondola in northern Italy. His otherwise spotless reputation as a serious, almost shy Marine is now stained by accusations he is a reckless killer.
