DOZENS OF LOCAL artisans will display their work at a craft show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School, 120 Dorsey Road.Visitors to "Springtime Splendor at the Schoolhouse" will find an array of gift and home-decorating items, including birdhouses, dolls, jewelry, quilts and wreaths.Refreshments will be available throughout the day.For additional information, call coordinator Mary Alice Clark, 768-0250.Talent showcaseGlen Burnie High School students will sing and dance as they display their talents at a variety show at 7 p.m. tomorrow in the school auditorium.

There are 55 trophies neatly aligned on six shelves in the gymnasium at Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School in Glen Burnie, testimony to the efforts and excellence of the school's band members.For all but three of the past 12 years, Arthur Slade's advanced band has been named the "outstanding Catholic elementary school band" in the country by the National Catholic Bandmasters Association. And the members are working hard to keep that record intact.Every Thursday, they rehearse in the school gym for 1 1/2 hours to perfect two pieces they will record in April to send to the bandmasters' association at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., for evaluation.

INFORMATION on community and government services available to students, parents and educators will be the focus of Resource-A-Rama from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Parent Involvement Center, 330 Oak Manor Drive.Agencies scheduled to participate include the YWCA, Open Door Substance Abuse Program, Harundale Youth and Family Services, and Parent Involvement Center.Debbie Wetzel of the center considers the event an informal opportunity to become acquainted with the many programs and organizations in the county directed at improving education and the family structure.

Stephen G. Peroutka, 40, and his brother Michael, 42, are at it again, organizing the annual golf tournament to benefit Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School.It has been five years since the brothers, both lawyers, took over. In that time, they figure, they have raised about $30,000.Some of the money has gone to the school's library and computer laboratory.This year's tournament is scheduled for Aug. 28 at Walden Country Club in Crofton. Check-in is at 9 a.m. Tee-off time is 10 a.m.The brothers expect about 120 golfers.

Paper butterflies, symbols of hope and belief, will decorate the halls of Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School in celebration of national Catholic Schools Week Monday through Feb. 4.Building on the theme, "Catholic Schools -- Schools You Can Believe In," the school has planned several activities to commemorate the valuable contributions Catholic schools have made to the community.The week of activities begins with an open house and continental breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday. Registration for the 1995-1996 school year will also be accepted.

Archbishop Spalding High School recently announced the winners of its scholarship competition.Full-tuition scholarships went to Anna Swartwood, who attends St. John the Evangelist School, and Stacey Conrad, a student at St. Rose of Lima School.Half-tuition scholarships were awarded to Jason King, of St. Jane Frances School; Maria Piazzola, of Arthur Slade Regional School; Beth Pryor, of St. Pius X School; and David Sayre, of Arthur Slade Regional School.Christopher Douglas of St. Mary's Elementary School was the first alternate.

While the county school board mulls over the pros and cons of year-round classes, Mother Nature has apparently decided this is the year to give it a shot.Tentative calculations suggest students will be making up snow days well into those lazy, crazy days of summer.The signs are everywhere:* Local PTAs frantically trading Green Apple Giant receipts for air conditioners instead of computers.* Ocean City hotels advertising combined Senior Week/Labor Day packages.* Arthur Slade Regional Catholic School orders red and green plaid tank top uniforms.

The Ferndale Roadrunners Club calendar continues to be a busy one. Members recently enjoyed a performance of "Shenandoah" at Toby's Dinner Theatre and had a delightful time at an Atlantic City casino. Their next trip will be to Lancaster County, Pa., and in early summer they will travel to Nashville, Tenn.All members and associate members are invited to a covered dish luncheon at 11 a.m. April 29 at the Ferndale-Linthicum Senior Center.The Roadrunners will see "Driving Miss Daisy" at Michael's Eighth Avenue April 30.
