Woman beaten, purse stolen A purse-snatcher threw a 20-year-old pregnant woman to the ground, kicked her and stepped on her head in front of a crowd outside the Harbour House complex in Eastport, Annapolis police said this week. The group, police added, did nothing as she screamed for help and he ran off with her purse. The victim, who is three months pregnant, told officers she had gotten out of her car to visit a friend in the public housing community around 7 p.m. Dec. 17 when a man approached and asked if she wanted to buy drugs.

Hotel is latest target of attempted fraud, For the fifth time in a week, a city business has reported that a man claiming to be a police officer requested patrons' credit card information. An employee of Loews Annapolis Hotel reported that the caller identified himself as "Annapolis Police Detective Robert Clark" on Tuesday and asked for all of the hotel guests' credit card numbers, saying he needed them for an unexplained investigation. The department has no such employee and does not make a practice of asking for credit card information.

Maryland official's son is arrested on drug chargesJames Twigg Willis, the son of Maryland's secretary of state, was released without bail by a court commissioner yesterday after being arrested with another man on drug charges.Police said Willis, 27, of the 3100 block of St. Paul St. was arrested Friday evening with Tyree D. Brooks, 18, of the 400 block of W. 28th St. after an officer hiding in bushes on Huntingdon Avenue allegedly saw them engaging in a drug transaction.Willis, the son of John T. Willis, was charged with attempted possession and conspiracy to possess drugs.

Taneytown police have arrested a dozen people, half of them juveniles, on charges including possession and distribution of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.Police Chief Melvin Diggs declined to say whether those arrested are suspected of being part of a drug ring."It's a lot [of arrests] at one time," said Diggs.The six juveniles, boys ages 14 to 17, were arrested first and led police to the others, he said. The investigation is continuing.Diggs said most of the arrests were made from March 25 to March 29 near East Baltimore Street and Grand Drive.

A monthlong investigation into possible drug violations at an Annapolis home has ended in the arrests of an Annapolis man and a juvenile who lived there, county police said.Larry Carroll Luck, 49, of the 1300 block of Washington Drive and the boy, 17, were charged Friday with possession of drugs and drug-related paraphernalia, police said.Narcotics officers said that police on patrol tipped them off last month to a possible drug problem at the residence. After weeks of gathering information, the narcotics officers raided the house.

A Westminster man accused of possession of suspected cocaine and maintaining a common nuisance at his apartment was ordered held yesterday on $5,000 bail. He was arrested along with a Hampstead woman, a Baltimore resident and two Baltimore County residents during a raid of his residence Saturday, police said.The others were also arrested on drug offenses and released Sunday on personal recognizance, court records show.The apartment's tenant, Steven J. Bynion, 28, of the 100 block of W. Main St. was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, court records show.

Although eight people were arrested on drug charges on Westminster's west side during the weekend, concerns about drug infestation have sparked a neighborhood cleanup to support police action, authorities said.City officials are recruiting downtown residents, businesses, college students and police officers to join the Neighborhood Cleanup Day on Saturday to boost community pride. They want to send a message to landlords that renting to drug dealers and addicts is unacceptable.Fliers distributed in the neighborhood say the cleanup will begin at 8 a.m. in front of Vince's Seafood at West Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

A Glen Burnie man who was out of a car and out of luck Thursday took a cab to Freetown and was arrested on drug charges after police got a tip that he was buying drugs in the community.County police said a bicyclist told a patrol officer someone in a cab was buying drugs about 8: 30 p.m.The officer stopped the cab and searched the passenger. The cab driver told the officer to look in the man's socks for drugs. Police said the officer found a small amount of crack cocaine with a street value of $20. Police seized the drugs and $30 of the man's money and arrested him.Ricky Lee Jenkins, 35, of the 200 block of Woodhill Drive was charged with possession of crack cocaine.

Three men were arrested on drug charges in two incidents over the weekend after investigators found marijuana plants in their homes, county police said.Michael Lewis Cousins, 25, of the 1000 block of Lindalee Drive in Glen Burnie, was charged with drug manufacturing, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of drugs with intent to distribute.He was arrested at 7: 45 p.m. Friday after county narcotics detectives searched his home and found 50 marijuana plants and materials used to grow and package them, police said.

A motorist stopped by a Sykesville officer operating a radar trap last week was arrested on drug charges, according to police.Officer Shawn D. Kilgore was operating a radar unit on Obrecht Road east of Harlan Lane at 5:50 p.m. Thursday when a white Subaru passed. In charging documents, Kilgore said the car was traveling 43 mph in a 25-mph zone.After stopping the car, Kilgore learned from Motor Vehicle Administration records that the motorist was driving with a suspended license. The officer also detected an odor he suspected was marijuana from a book bag on the passenger seat.

Davidsonville man arrested on drug charges Police seized nearly $1,000 of steroids, trace amounts of cocaine and drug paraphernalia from a Davidsonville home Wednesday, concluding a monthlong investigation, county police said. Officers from a tactical drug team found the drugs while searching a home in the 700 block of Sharpsburg Drive on a warrant. Michael Damian Paddy, 31, a resident of the home, was arrested and charged with drug possession and steroid possession. Man charged in two early morning robberies A 21-year-old man was charged with two robberies after police say he stole a man's wallet and then wriggled through a McDonald's drive through window and held up the employees at gun-point early Thursday morning, Annapolis police said. About 3:20 a.m., a man flashed a handgun, demanded a wallet from another man walking on Ellington Drive near Janwell Street and then fled on a bicycle, police said. About 50 minutes later, a man matching the same description as the suspect crawled through the drive-through window of the McDonald's restaurant in the 1900 block of West St., showed a handgun and ordered the employees to lie on the floor.

Pair assault clerk for cigarettes Two people assaulted the clerk of a Glen Burnie gas station to steal a pack of cigarettes, Anne Arundel County police said. A man and a woman, both wearing black, entered the Aquahart Chevron, 251 Aquahart Road, about 10:40 p.m. Tuesday and asked to buy a soda. Then the man forced his way into the booth, attacked the clerk and stole the Newport cigarettes before the pair fled. Cars doused with kerosene A Baltimore County man was arrested after several cars at a Glen Burnie sales lot were doused in kerosene, Anne Arundel County police said.

Three teenagers face drug charges Three teenagers have been arrested on drug charges after police found alcohol and marijuana worth $2,800 in their car, Anne Arundel County police said. Officers saw the vehicle parked in a poorly lighted area of a parking lot in the 3200 block of Route 2 in Edgewater about midnight Thursday, saw the alcohol and smelled the marijuana, police said. They seized a backpack containing 534.5 grams of marijuana, 10 Ecstasy pills and $378, police said. Anthony Michael McCarthy, 19 of the 1400 block of Warfield Road in Edgewater, Jay Tyler Hughes, 19, of the 14400 block of Old Stage Road in Bowie and an unidentified 17-year-old male from Edgewater were charged with possession of drugs, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Crofton 2 teens suspected in 40 vandalism cases Two teenagers are suspected in up to 40 cases of vandalized vehicles after a witness reported seeing someone striking cars with a baseball bat, Anne Arundel County police said. Anne Arundel County police said the witness saw two youths driving down the 1600 block of Forest Hill Court in Crofton around 4:30 a.m. Thursday and hitting parked cars with the bat. The witness followed the car and called police. When officers arrived and tried to pull the car over, the pair bailed out and began running.

For the second time in about a month, Anne Arundel County police raided a Brooklyn Park home and arrested the same two men on suspicion of drug dealing. Early Friday, members of the Northern District Tactical Narcotics Team executed a search-and-seizure warrant in the 900 block of Victory Ave. and recovered crack cocaine, marijuana and $1,189 in cash, county police reported. Five people, including residents Jaron Mayo, 21, and Jermaine Ricks, 20, were arrested and charged with drug-related offenses, police said.

Suspect sought in bank robbery A Severna Park bank was robbed on Monday afternoon, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday. The robber entered the 1st Mariner Bank at 366 Ritchie Highway around 12:20 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money. He did not show a weapon and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was described as African-American with a dark complexion, 40 to 50 years old, 6 feet 2 inches tall, 190 pounds, with a goatee and wearing a dark blue automotive jumpsuit, blue fishing hat and dark sunglasses.

Driver robbed at gunpoint Two men cut off a driver in Pasadena and robbed him at gunpoint, Anne Arundel County police said yesterday.
