An armed man shot by Baltimore police Sunday evening has died, according to a spokesman for the department. Police received a call shortly before 9 p.m. from a person inside a house in the 3600 block of St. Victor Street in the Southern District, saying that another person in the house was armed, the spokesman, Anthony Guglielmi, said. He said patrol officers entered the house and found an armed man and asked him multiple times to put down his weapon. "He turned and faced police with a weapon in his hand and was fired upon," said Guglielmi, who said at least one officer fired.

A man and a woman waiting in the parking garage of the Maryland Live casino in Hanover were robbed at gunpoint early Friday, Anne Arundel County police said. A casino patron who left Maryland Live earlier was sitting in his car with a woman about 7 a.m. Friday when an armed man approached the vehicle and demanded money, police said. The man and woman were not hurt, and the robbery was filmed by security cameras in the parking garage. The suspect fled the garage with an undisclosed amount in a black Nissan Altima, police said.

A gun shot fired during a chase whizzed several hundred feet through the Glen Burnie air Friday night police said, before lodging in a wall just four feet above a sleeping five year old. Anne Arundel County police said the incident started just before 10 p.m. when a 27-year-old man was approached by an armed man in the 7900 block of Gentle Breeze Court. The victim ran away and was chased by the gunman, who fired multiple shots, police said. One of the bullets flew across the street and went through the front window of a home in the 400 block of Secluded Post Circle, police said, only coming to rest when it struck a wall above where the young child was sleeping.

A 43-year-old Columbia woman sped off after an armed man threatened her as she sat in her car at an automated teller machine in Owen Brown early yesterday.Howard County police said the man pointed a handgun at the victim and motioned her to exit the vehicle. But the woman screamed, drove to a nearby Giant Food parking lot and ran inside.The man was described as black, about 17 years old and standing 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall. He had short hair and wore an orange Starter jacket.

An armed man walked into a Columbia convenience store and robbed a customer before taking money from the store's register early yesterday, Howard County police said.No one was hurt in the robbery of the Royal Farm Store in the 8200 block of Lark Brown Road in Long Reach village, police said.Police said the man entered the store shortly after midnight, showed a handgun and demanded money from a customer and the store clerk. After they complied, he ran from the store, police said.The robber was described as a black male in his early 20s, about 5 feet 11 inches tall and wearing a short-sleeved T-shirt and shorts, police said.

A man with a gun, who also claimed to have a bomb, robbed an Annapolis bank yesterday afternoon, getting away with an undetermined amount of money.Police said the man, who appeared to be 60 to 70 years old, entered the Chase Bank of Maryland, in the 100 block of Jennifer Road, about 1 p.m. and threatened a teller with a small handgun.The man demanded to be admitted behind the counter, police reported, and a manager escorted him back and gave him money from a cash drawer. Police said the man tried unsuccessfully to get into the vault.

An armed man wearing a ski mask tried to rob a Columbia gas station Friday, but he ran when a clerk pressed an alarm button, Howard County police said.The clerk was not injured, police said.According to police, the man approached the clerk at the Exxon gas station in the 7100 block of Minstrel Way at 1: 18 a.m., displayed a handgun and demanded money.But the clerk immediately activated an alarm system and picked up a phone to call police. The man ran to a black vehicle and fled, police said.

An armed man robbed First Union National Bank in Jessup yesterday of an undisclosed amount of cash, Howard County police said. The robber - described as a black man, about 5 feet 10 and weighing 170 to 180 pounds and wearing a straw hat, sunglasses, khaki pants, tie and sports coat - entered the bank in the 8600 block of Washington Blvd. about 8:15 a.m. He approached two employees with what police believe was a stun gun and demanded money, police said. After he received the cash, the man fled north on Washington Boulevard on foot, police said.

A Prince George's County police officer shot and killed an armed man early Saturday in Capitol Heights, authorities said. Police were called about 4 a.m. to Marlboro Pike and Lee Jay Drive after witnesses reported hearing gunshots, police said. Two officers nearby spotted a man fleeing the area on foot, grabbing his side. When the officers confronted the suspect, he reached for a weapon in his waistband, and one of the officers fired his weapon multiple times, police said. The man - who was not identified - was pronounced dead at Prince's George's County Hospital Center, police said.

An armed man posing as a police officer was arrested amid an Anne Arundel prostitution sting designed to net would-be johns, authorities said. Steven James Gravley Jr., 27, of the unit block of Stockmill Road in Pikesville was charged with attempted robbery, police impersonation and prostitution, Anne Arundel County police said. Police said Gravley answered an Internet ad that officers had placed as part of sting targeting customers of prostitutes in Linthicum and Hanover. But Gravley arrived at a hotel room where he thought he was meeting a prostitute with a BB gun in his waist band, police said.

An armed man was shot by an Aberdeen Police officer late Monday night after officers responded to a local motel near Aberdeen Proving Ground where gunfire had been reported, according to Aberdeen Police. Police were called to the Economy Inn in the 600 block of S. Philadelphia Boulevard in Aberdeen in Harford County about 11:34 p.m., police said. A witness there described a man wearing "a baggy gray shirt and blue jeans" shooting a gun in the area of the motel, and officers quickly located a man matching that description near a vehicle in the motel's parking lot, police said.

Letter writer Ron Wirsing was absolutely correct in ascertaining that the murder rate is lower in states that adopt the stand-your - ground self defense law ("Zimmerman trial had nothing to do with race," July 17). And the reason is pretty simple. In those states, when an armed man kills an unarmed man and pleads self-defense and walks, it's not called murder anymore. It's called open season. Thomas J. Snyder

A suspect in an East Baltimore shooting Sunday morning surrendered after being shot at by an officer on the scene, Baltimore City police reported. Police responding to a domestic-related call in the 1700 block of Montpelier Street just before 10 a.m. found an armed man and saw him shoot another man, police reported. A patrol officer on the scene fired a shot at the suspect, police said, but did not hit him. The suspect surrendered without further incident, police said. The man who was shot was taken to a local hospital, police said, where he was being treated for his injuries Sunday afternoon.

An armed man in camoflauge jumped the counter of a post office in Fallston and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash on Saturday morning, according to the Harford County Sheriff's Office. The armed robbery, which occurred at the Benson post office about 11:30 a.m., came just hours after an attempted armed robbery of a bank about five miles away in southern Bel Air, according to the sheriff's office. At the post office in the 100 block of Connolly Road, a man wearing camoflauge and holding a handgun entered, announced a robbery and then jumped over a counter before taking the cash and fleeing on foot toward the 1800 block of Harford Road, the sheriff's office said.

A 20-year-old Westminster man intent on committing "suicide by cop" crashed his parents' sport utility vehicle Tuesday night, killing an elderly Reisterstown woman, Baltimore County police said. Police said Nicholas Mottley led officers on a chase through Baltimore County, where he rammed a police car, was involved in another small crash, then sped off and ultimately struck a car driven by Martha Tabares, 74. Tabares was killed instantly when the Chevrolet Traverse Mottley was driving struck her Toyota Corolla nearly head-on at 8:22 p.m., said Cpl. John Wachter, a police spokesman.
