A New York investment firm has given a $12.5 million short-term loan to the owner of an Arbutus industrial building to "stabilize the property for the longer term," according to one of the firm's managing directors. "Like many owners of Class-B and Class-C assets in the nation's middle markets, this sponsor needed a competitively priced, non-recourse bridge loan," said Geoffrey Smith, of Hudson Realty Capital Inc., in a statement Thursday. Hudson loaned the money for upkeep of a 689,000 square foot building in Arbutus on a 34-acre industrial site that currently houses a "prominent manufacturing company, mechanical contractor, logistics company and wholesaler of natural stone products," the statement said.

Several local business are among more than 30 insurance and financial professional firms that will be conducting a clothing drive beginning in September to support four metro area nonprofits. The drive will focus on collecting gently used and new business attire to assist House of Ruth, Suited to Succeed, Attire for Hire and Maryland New Directions. Each organization assists with resume writing, interview techniques and also allowing their clients to select the proper business attire for their first interview.

I would like to thank everyone involved in the first Catonsville Kite Flying Contest, held at Charlestown retirement community May 19. This intergenerational event brought together our residents with families and students from Arbutus, Hillcrest and Lansdowne Elementary schools, along with Our Lady of Victory School, on a bright sun-splashed morning. In particular, much appreciation is extended to Charlestown resident and Rotarian Pat Kasuda for her vision and leadership in creating the contest.

Crews responded to the report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle in Arbutus. One person with non-life-threatening injuries taken to a local hospital. Circle Drive, 1200 block, 10:20 p.m. June 13. Crews responded to the report of an unconscious person in Arbutus and transported one seriously ill person to a local hospital.
