The repeat All-Metro Player of the Year continued to dazzle with unmatched offensive skills, averaging 24points, five assists and three steals per game in leading the No. 2 Clippers (21-7) to their first state title.  After the Clippers lost in the Class 4A state championship game last season, Carr committed himself to bringing the team back to the title game - and leaving with a happier ending. Despite playing with foul trouble, the 5-foot-7 Carr scored a game-high 28 points and added eight assists as Patterson defeated Thomas Stone, 86-75, in the 3A final.  Carr, who has committed to Seton Hall, scored 25 or more points in nine games this season, including 47 in a regular-season win over Poly and 31 against then-No.

There's been talk that Patterson basketball standout Aquille Carr may be transferring next year - including a comment on his Twitter account that hints at the possibility - but the junior point guard told The Baltimore Sun he hasn't made any decision yet. “I don't know yet - I'm still talking with my family about that,” he said Thursday. The 5-foot-7 Carr, last year's All-Metro Player of the Year, led the No. 2 Clippers to the Class 3A state title earlier this month and has 1,990 career points in his three years at Patterson.

 

The junior point guard led the Clippers to their first state championship, scoring 28 points with 8 assists and 6 steals in an 86-75 victory over Thomas Stone in Saturday's Class 3A final. On Thursday night,Carr scored 24 points in a 70-46 semifinal win over Tuscarora, 70-46. He has averaged 24.5 points and 5 assists this season. Coach Harry Martin says his 5-foot-6 dynamo is "one of the quickest players in the country with the ball in his hands. " Carr has verbally committed to Seton Hall.

It was business as usual for Patterson junior guard Aquille Carr in Thursday's Class 3A state semifinal game against Tuscarora. At Comcast Center, Carr scored a game-high 24 points in a 70-46 win that sent the No. 3 Clippers to Saturday's state title. The rest of the night - carrying into this morning - was far from the norm for Carr, however.  At approximately 6:35 a.m. this morning, Carr, 18, became a father when his girlfriend, Treshonda, gave birth to a baby girl they named Averi.

COLLEGE PARK - In the opening minutes of Thursday's Class 3A state semifinal, there were some clear signs that the No. 3 Patterson boys basketball simply had too much for its Frederick County opponent Tuscarora to handle. The Clippers showed their quickness by creating steals, a blocked shot warned how tough it would be to get points inside and, while all the baskets didn't fall freely at the offensive end early, they seemed to be able to get the shots they wanted. Shortly after junior guard Aquille Carr scored his first points - a driving layup about midway through the first quarter - Patterson's offense started to match its defense, and the Clippers went on to take a comfortable 70-46 win over Tuscarora at Comcast Center.

Aquille Carr admits he was pressing when he came off the bench to enter Thursday night's Class 3A North Region semifinal at City. But, luckily for Patterson, the junior point guard fared much better in the second half. Carr took command and scored 17 of his game-high 23 points after the break as the No. 5 Clippers defeated No. 9 City, 67-59. Patterson (18-7) will play at No. 1 Milford Mill in Saturday's regional final after the Millers defeated Woodlawn, 59-41, Thursday night.

The Dunbar boys basketball team has had its share of success at the state level in recent years, winning the past two Class 1A titles and making regular visits to Comcast Center. But the No. 7 Poets, once the dominant player in Baltimore City year after year after year, have been hankering to again become kings in their own backyard. With a balanced offensive performance and relentless team defense that typified their season, the Poets knocked off defending champion and No. 2 Patterson, 65-61, on Tuesday to capture Baltimore City's Division 1 championship at packed Hill Field House at Morgan State.

Aquille Carr scored 61 points for Patterson when the Clippers played Forest Park last year. But he didn't need to do as much this time, and that made coach Harry Martin a happy man. Carr finished with a game-high 24 points, as No. 3 Patterson defeated No. 8 Forest Park, 79-63 on Monday night. Patterson not only had Carr's complete play, but benefited from strong performances by Nymee Manns, Devin Hebron and Leonard Livingston. This game didn't affect the Baltimore City standings, but a Patterson win over Carver later this week secures the Clippers a spot to play No. 7 Dunbar in the Division I title game, probably next week.

Evan Singletary scored a game-high 20 points but they weren't enough. Visiting No. 11 City ran half-court sets, pounding the inside and upset No. 2 Dunbar, 53-49, on Friday in boys basketball. The Knights (14-4) trailed in the opening quarter 14-11 but led at the end of every quarter after that. Dunbar tried a full-court press, but City broke it and ran its half-court offense, scoring points in the paint and outrebounding the Poets. Omari George led City with 14 points.
