A Baltimore City Circuit Court judge has dismissed a lawsuit by Orioles owner Peter G. Angelos that challenged the city's plans for the long-delayed Superblock project. In the decision, signed last week but announced by the state on Tuesday, Judge John Philip Miller wrote that Angelos' 120 W. Fayette Street LLLP "failed to state a claim upon which relief can be granted. " In the lawsuit, Angelos contended that the head of the Maryland Historical Trust did not have the authority to act for the trust when he approved preliminary plans for the west side redevelopment in December.

A letter to Mr. Peter Angelos: With all due respect, I believe the time has come for you to give serious consideration to selling the Baltimore Orioles. The promises we as fans have been given to see changes for the better have never materialized. The culture of losing has become so ingrained in the ball players on your team, some have unconsciously learned to accept losing as being the norm. The addition of Buck Showalter last season was nothing more than putting a Band-Aid on a gaping wound.

Four months after a botched draft-day deal between the Ravens and the Bears, Chicago general manager Jerry Angelo said Friday that he and Ravens coach John Harbaugh have "cleared the air" about what went down. During the first round of the NFL draft, the Ravens and the Bears agreed to swap draft picks. Both teams had to confirm to league officials that a deal had been reached. The Ravens let the NFL know, but the Bears never made the call. Time ran out on the Ravens and the Chief swooped in to select wide receiver Jonathan Baldwin at pick No. 26. Moments later, the Ravens were still able to get their guy in cornerback Jimmy Smith.

We have countless awesome sports photos in the archives here at The Baltimore Sun , and I have decided to share one with you each week in a regular feature called "Throwback Thursday. " Since I fantasized about Peter Angelos -- let me finish this sentence -- using his Exxon money to sign slugger Prince Fielder in this Thursday morning post , I decided to do an extensive search of Mr. Mesothelioma in our photo archives. God, did I find an amazing photo of Angelos and Governor William Donald Schaefer back in 1993.

A Circuit Court judge is expected to rule soon on whether to dismiss a lawsuit about the city's much-contested Superblock project — the second challenge from Orioles owner Peter G. Angelos — or to let the case proceed. City officials want to redevelop a blighted part of Baltimore's west side by selling property to developer Lexington Square Partners, which this week received a second six-month extension on the land disposition agreement. A property-ownership company controlled by Angelos sued in April, alleging that the city and state circumvented rules in order to push the mixed-use development forward despite insufficient preservation of historic buildings.

Orioles owner Peter Angelos will be adding a sizable chunk of change to all of his mesothelioma money after his law firm successfully convinced a Baltimore County jury to force Exxon Mobil to pay more than $495 million in damages to local families and business from a 2006 underground gasoline leak in Jacksonville, Md. What are the chances Angelos will use some of his commission to sign a big-name free agent this winter? OK, slim to none -- we are talking about Peter Angelos and the Orioles here -- but fans can hope, right?

Angelo's, the Hampden pizzeria that closed without warning on May 15, has reopened. The same owners, brothers Angelo and Tommy Pizza, are back. According to this story in the Baltimore Business Journal, the Pizzas were able to reopen Angelo's last Friday with a loan from a longtime customer. Good to hear.

The State Center project presents a significant — perhaps unparalleled — economic development opportunity, which will result in benefits across the neighboring communities, the city, and the state. Peter. Angelos wrote recently ("Angelos: Mayor exploits Schaefer's memory" May 6) to put down this project. He asked a lot of questions and answered none, as if the mere asking was sufficient. I have no problems with doing things the right way and asking legitimate questions.

Lately, it seems like Hampden has had a few surprising losses in the eating options category. Both The Dizz At Grandview and Angelo's Carry-Out, home of the famous Big Slice, closed suddenly, to the disappointment of many. The Dizz at Grandview opened and closed before I even had a chance to eat there. And Angelo's had long served this area. Both will be missed. However, there are still plenty of culinary options to consider, with a few new places being planned that still remain too much in the rumor category for me to write about.

In case you're wondering, Peter Angelos' involvement in this year's mayoral race didn't begin or end with last week's surprising letter to the editor . A bunch of declared challengers trooped into Angelos' office about two weeks ago. They came in separately, one day after the next, seeking campaign cash, a source tells me. The supplicants were: former city Planning Director Otis Rolley , City Councilman Carl Stokes and former Councilman...
