Smith (nee Creech) and the late John Randolph Smith; loving brother of Virginia S. Byrd and the late Ray Edward Smith; cherished grandfather of Douglas, III and Benjamin; loving uncle of Patrick Byrd and his wife Pinda and Willie Byrd and his wife Stacey S. Also survived by two great-nephews, one great-niece and many friends and extended family. Visitation will be held at the Connelly Funeral Home of Essex, 300 Mace Avenue, on Monday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, 10 A.M. in Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6736 Youngstown Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21222.

The daughter of a top Baltimore police commander was suspended from her Police Department clerical job yesterday after she was accused of destroying an arrest warrant charging her former boyfriend with robbing a police officer of his gun. Amy Smith, daughter of Col. Robert Smith, will continue to be paid as she awaits the outcome of an internal investigation, a high-level police source said. She could not be reached to comment yesterday. Smith is a civilian clerk who researches warrant information for officers and has worked at headquarters for four years.

ELDERSBURG -- Girl Scout Troop 417 recently participated in the "Maryland in Miniature" program, a hands-on land and sea adventure, sponsored by the Lady Maryland Foundation.The Junior Scouts began with a "llama trek" where the girls groomed, fed and packed their llamas for a trip along a natural spring that feeds Deer Creek.The girls also learned the importance of the watershed area on Chesapeake Bay.Later, the Scouts went to Rocks State Park for dinner, fireworks and an overnight camp-out.
