DETROIT - Right-hander Bud Norris is now scheduled to be the Orioles' Game 3 starter on Sunday at Comerica Park.  Even though the Orioles had never officially announced a Game 3 starter, right-hander Miguel Gonzalez had been expected to pitch that game. Showalter left open wiggle room to tweak his ALDS rotation, and both pitchers were available to pitch in relief for Games 1 and 2. But Showater said that Gonzalez would have only been used in relief in case of an emergency. In the postseason, the next day's scheduled pitcher usually has a news conference with the media.

Game 4 of the ALDS would start at either 12:07 p.m. or 1:37 p.m., if the ALDS series between the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels has concluded. Bud Norris would likely start that game. Norris has struggled in day games, going 11-21 with a 4.72 ERA over his career, compared to 42-36 with a 4.07 ERA at night. This season, Norris is 3-4 with a 5.57 ERA in eight day starts and 12-4 with a 2.99 ERA in 20 night starts. If necessary, Game 5 will be played on Wednesday at Camden Yards at 5:37 p.m., or 8:37 p.m. if the other ALDS series has been completed.

Here's a look at how our Orioles Insiders see the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees playing out: Eduardo A. Encina Orioles in 5 Can't pick against the Orioles now. The O's will feed off the crowd today, as will Game 1 starter Jason Hammel, who fought to get healthy in time for this moment. I like the idea of going with Miguel Gonzalez in Game 3 in Yankee Stadium in a huge momentum game. He's shown he can win there. In my eyes, the Orioles only need to win one of two at Camden Yards.

In considering his American League Division Series roster, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said this weekend in Toronto that his biggest decision was whether he would carry 10 or 11 pitchers in the best-of-five series against the Detroit Tigers. He decided on the latter and opted to make that 11th pitcher right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez . To call Jimenez's first season in Baltimore inconsistent might be kind. He's been on a roller coaster that included a second-half demotion to the bullpen.

Breaking down the American League Division Series matchup between the Orioles and Tigers, which begins Thursday at Camden Yards: How they got here Tigers: They had to scratch and claw to win their fourth straight American League Central title. The Tigers were 90-72 this season and didn't secure the division until they won Sunday. They may have the most formidable rotation in baseball, with the last three AL Cy Young Award winners. Their offense isn't shabby either, with the specter of two-time reigning AL Most Valuable Player Miguel Cabrera always looming.

An announced sellout crowd formed a sea of orange throughout the seating bowl of Camden Yards -- waving orange rally towels that said “Welcome to October” -- ready for the return of postseason baseball to Baltimore. After nearly two weeks of essentially meaningless games since wrapping up the American League East title, the switch suddenly turned onto the bright playoff stage. The Orioles aren't content with just being in the postseason. They're aiming for the franchise's first World Series title in more than three decades.

NEW YORK - The Orioles have done the improbable so many times this year that it's starting to seem commonplace, so why wouldn't they suddenly be standing on the threshold of the American League Championship Series? They managed to sneak out of the Bronx on Thursday night with another in their amazing collection of extra-inning victories and have set up the delectable possibility of another wild and crazy champagne celebration Friday in the bowels of Yankee Stadium. It's hard to imagine anything matching the full-contact free-for-all that took place at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington last Friday night, but it's also impossible to predict how an Orioles team will react if they vanquish their most storied rival in the stadium that is considered by many to be the center of the baseball universe.
