On January 12, 2004; ELEONORE SZERSZEN, beloved wife of Theodore Szerszen died of complications from Alzheimer's Disease, eight days before her 79th birthday. Mrs. Szerszen immigrated to the United States and settled in Baltimore in 1949 where she met and married Theodore Szerszen in 1950. She became a US citizen in 1951. She is also survived by her loving children, Anita Neidermeyer of Herndon, VA, Dennis Szerszen of Chapel Hill, NC and four grandchildren, Jack, Alexa, Alexander, and Nicholas.

Several new studies suggest that diabetes increases the risk of Alzheimer's disease, adding to a store of evidence that links the disorders. The studies involve only Type 2 diabetes, the most common kind, which is usually related to obesity. The connection raises the prospect that increases in diabetes, a major concern in the United States and worldwide, may worsen the rising toll from Alzheimer's. The findings also add dementia to the cloud of threats that hang over people with diabetes.

JAMES FREDERICK SVEC SR., of Baltimore, MD, died Thursday, December 30, 2004, in the Manor Care Nursing Home in Towson, MD, he was 83. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Cleland of Baltimore, MD, one son, James Frederick Svec Jr., of Baltimore, MD., one brother, Albert Svec of Maryland, two sisters, Tina Svatora and Dorothy Robel both of Maryland, and four grandchildren. A visitation will be held Monday, January 3, 2005 at Bruzdzinzki Funeral Home, 1407 Old Eastern Ave., Essex, MD. 21221 from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M. A Graveside service will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2005 at 11 A.M. in Still Pond Cemetery, Still Pond, MD.
