On Friday, April 10, 2009, MARY JANE (nee Davis) CARDUFF, devoted wife of William F. Carduff, died peacefully of complications due to Alzheimer's disease. She was also survived by daughters Sharon M. Caruso and her husband Dave; grandchildren Geoffrey, Courtney, Susan M. Cessna and her husband Brian; grandsons Branden and Matthew, Kathleen M. Cessna, and granddaughters Jennifer, Kimberly and Lindsay. Due to the fact that her body was donated to the Anatomy Board, there will be a memorial mass on Monday, April 13th, 11 A.M. at St. John's Neumann Church in Berlin, MD. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made on her behalf to the Alzheimer's Association.

Direct designations help worthwhile nonprofit groups The July 13 article "United Way donations still being earmarked" did not make clear that many worthwhile nonprofit organizations benefit from direct designations through United Way payroll campaigns. United Way agencies must restrict their funds to the local community. Because many health agencies support research nationally, they cannot be United Way agencies. Instead, 25 local health agencies are part of a federation, "Community Health Charities."

On Sunday, September 12, 2004, DOROTHY L., 87, passed away at Brighton Gardens, Towson, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born December 28, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Archie C. and Amelia E. Mc Dermot. Dorothy was a former member of Arlington Methodist Church and a graduate of Western High School. Dorothy retired in 1979 after 39 years of service as an executive secretary for BGE in downtown Baltimore. She enjoyed gardening, walking and being outdoors. She is survived by sisters Lula G. Thomas of Westminster, and Patricia L. King of Parkville.
