A man was shot Wednesday night and died early Thursday, and two men killed in separate, unrelated incidents were identified, police said. About 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a report of shots fired and found Dewayne M. Booker, 20, in the 2200 block of Sherwood Ave. in Northeast Baltimore. Booker, who was sought on a criminal warrant, had been shot a half-block away in the 1300 block of Bonaparte Ave., near his home. He was pronounced dead at Maryland Shock Trauma Center after midnight.

Man who pointed rifle at officer eludes surveillance Baltimore police surrounded a block of rowhouses in Northwest Baltimore early yesterday to search for a man who they said had pointed a rifle at an officer. After six hours, police watching a house to which they thought he had run on Allendale Road found that the man was not there. The officers found several pit bulls, including one about 10 weeks old, in the basement. Authorities said they are investigating whether the dogs were being used for fighting.

A 38-year-old man was fatally shot early yesterday near Gwynns Falls Park, becoming Baltimore's 38th homicide victim this year, city police said. Police also reported yesterday the death over the weekend of a man shot Thursday in the 2900 block of Allendale Road in West Baltimore. In yesterday's shooting, police responded to a report of a shooting at 4:28 a.m. at Rosedale Street and Edmondson Avenue. They found a man lying in the street nearby in the 900 block of Ellicott Driveway, said Officer Nicole Monroe, a police spokeswoman.

A 20-year-old man was fatally shot yesterday afternoon less than a block from his home in West Baltimore's Garwyn Oaks area - the 234th homicide victim in the city this year, police said. James Stokes had left his home in the 2300 block of Allendale Road about 12:30 p.m. and was walking in the 2300 block of Chelsea Terrace when a man stepped from a car and shot him in the head, said Detective Chris Jones. Stokes, who lived with an aunt, died later at Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Also yesterday, police released the names of two people who were fatally shot over the weekend in unsolved, and unrelated, slayings.
