IT IS too late for the House Appropriations Committee in Washington to rescue the eight teen-agers from Owings Mills High School who got themselves barred from graduation because they tried to sneak alcohol to their prom.The seniors did receive their diplomas, but as unceremoniously as a six-pack exchanged in a package-store parking lot. The teen-agers disappointed their parents, who weren't able to celebrate their children's accomplishment.Instead, they were left to grouse that "not everyone got punished equally."

Police arrested two men on drug charges Monday and one on destruction of property charges at Phirne and Glen Mar roads in Glen Burnie, county police said.When an officer arrived at the intersection just before 3 a.m. Monday, he found about six people milling around, police said.The officer told two of the men to leave, but then saw one give the other something from his pants pocket. The second man stuffed the object in his trousers, the report said.As the officer approached the two, he smelled drugs, the report said.

A 28-year-old Glen Burnie man was charged with assault with intent to commit murder and other offenses Monday after another man's face was slashed, county police said.Police gave the following account:The incident occurred about 7 a.m. Monday in a parking lot in the 7900 block of Allard Court, police said. Keith J. Wood, 21, of the 8000 block of E. Phirne Road in Glen Burnie, was arguing with Shanna Booth, 22, of the 8100 block of Harold Court.The two exchanged blows, then another man stepped in and cut Mr. Wood's face with a 5-inch Swiss Army knife.

Ask the Moon got control of the $50,000 Maryland Juvenile Filly Championship near the top of the stretch to win the featured race at Laurel Park. She finished the one mile in 1 minute, 40:16 seconds. Kosmo's Buddy was in the lead, but Ask the Moon caught up with two furlongs left and won by 4 1/2 lengths. "I saw my filly in good position," said Ask the Moon's jockey, Hiram Rivera. "I had a lot of horse and I moved and she won easily." Favorite Hartigan rallied to take second, and Kosmo's Buddy finished third.

Someone broke into a Glen Burnie home Wednesday, ransacked it and took audio equipment, cameras and two shotguns, county police said.Police said they have no witnesses to the burglary, but two neighbors gave police a description of a man who may have tried to break into their homes through rear sliding glass doors.Richard Martens Jr., 46, of the 7900 block of Parke West Drive called police shortly after 1 p.m. and told them his wife had entered their home minutes earlier and found it in disarray.

Five men were arrested Friday during drug raids on two apartments in the 600 block of West Shore Road, county police said.Two men were arrested in one apartment during the 11:15 p.m. raid, in which detectives reported finding four bags of crack cocaine weighing just over half a gram. Police said the man who rented the apartment was arrested when detectives stopped his car for a traffic violation.Two other men were arrested in the second apartment, where officers reported finding two empty vials containing crack cocaine residue and a plastic bag with half a gram of the drug, police said.

County police arrested a Rolling Knolls man Friday night in a shooting at the Woodside Apartments in which a 16-year-old Glen Burnie youth narrowly escaped injury, authorities said.Quentin Terrill Smith, 18, of the 600 block of Wayward Drive, was charged with assault with intent to murder and reckless endangerment. Police arrested him at his home after Terry Gaither, 16, picked him out of a photo lineup, police said.The shooting occurred about 8:30 p.m. Terry, of the 7900 block of Allard Court, was standing in a group in front of the apartment complex in the 600 block of Hallmark Drive when four youths drove up in a white Nissan Sentra.
