The front parlor of the Westminster mansion where the Billingslea children used to play and where George W. Albaugh lay in state amid banks of flowers after his death in 1933 is covered with construction dust.So is the back parlor, where the baby grand piano stood. That's because construction workers are drilling and hammering the historic building, which became Westminster's City Hall in 1939.The work includes an elevator and wider doors that will make City Hall accessible to the disabled, a more formal entrance for the heavily used back door and restoration of a 19th-century parlor atmosphere to the two rooms that will be used for City Council meetings.

Annapolis area sportsman Dick Broden joined myself and Wayne Albaugh recently for an afternoon of great crow shooting.Albaugh and I got the idea of putting together a crow shoot after cruising some familiar central Maryland farms and picking off the distant targets with two .22-250 chambered varmint rifles. The crow is a pest that farmers are glad to see chased from the neighborhood and getting permission to do just that is seldom difficult. We owed Broden some hunting in return for the regular fishing trips we enjoyed aboard his boat last summer and figured correctly that this hunt would be a welcome break from the mid-winter blues.

My pal, Wayne Albaugh, asked me recently about my weekend plans.I told him I'd been wanting to get up on the Potomac, but it was still running a little high for my tastes and we could go down to the bay. But I had done that on Tuesday, and I figured if we waited a week or two the blues will be in and probably flounder, too. After noting that the grass is too high yet to go after chucks, Albaugh suggested some pond fishing. And that's how we entertained ourselves in a royal manner one recent morning, and you can get in on it, too. Carroll County has literally thousands of farm ponds that are begging to be fished.
