Bingo Saturday at county ag center The Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair will sponsor a Longaberger basket bingo Saturday in the Danele Shipley Building at the Carroll County Agriculture Center, 700 Agriculture Center Drive, Westminster. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and bingo will begin at 7 p.m. Twenty games with filled baskets will played, and door prizes, raffles, specials and concessions will be featured. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair.

Their hands might not be as steady as they once were, but they can still pull weeds, sew hems and apply brush stokes. Their creativity was evident yesterday among the produce, crochet pieces, paintings, quilts, wreaths and crafts on display during the annual Senior Citizens Day at the Carroll County 4-H Fair. "I think it's important that the young people get to see what the seniors can do," said Paul Garver, manager of Westminster Senior Center, to which many of the fair contestants belong.

It's Oktoberfest in July at state fairgrounds Festival Get your lederhosen out of the closet, pack the kids into the minivan and head over to the Maryland State Fairgrounds for a two-day celebration of all things German. The 108th German Festival features live entertainment, including traditional dancing and folk singing; children's entertainment, including a puppet show and a rock-climbing wall; crafts; German food; imported and domestic beer; and more. Free parking provided. The festival runs 11:30 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday.

Zoning rules needed for adult entertainmentCarroll County would do well to follow Baltimore County's lead and pass zoning regulations relegating adult entertainment stores to areas zoned for industrial use.Carroll County's zoning laws allow adult entertainment stores -- adult book and video stores, tattoo and massage parlors -- in any area zoned for commercial use.These types of businesses are a terrible influence on children. They are detrimental to neighborhoods and drive away businesses.

POLICE* Westminster: A resident of Millers told city police that someone stole a purse from her auto while it was parked in the rear of the first block of W. George St. on Tuesday. The loss was estimated at $59.A visitor from Stevenson, Baltimore County, told city police that someone extensively scratched the paint on the passenger's side of her automobile while it was parked at the rear of the first block of N.
