First Advantage Mortgage Corp. of Columbia recently signed a $10 million commitment with Fannie Mae (the Federal National Mortgage Association) to deliver first mortgages for up to 95 percent of the value of the property to modest-income homebuyers through a program called Community Home Improvement Program. The money is available for purchasing a home or repairs.Martin Marietta Aero and Naval Systems is sponsoring a scholarship program that will grant awards each year for up to five students enrolling in the engineering studies program at Essex Community College.

She is responsible for marketing research and new business development at the Frederick-based advertising, marketing and research firm. Formerly chief marketing officer for Farmers & Mechanics Bank, she holds an M.A. and M.B.A. from Columbia University. A Frederick resident, Lewis is active in the Mental Health Association, United Way and the Weinberg Center for the Arts.

Eisner & Associates has received the top award in the local advertising industry for its television commercial for Minolta Corp.Work on the $4.5 million Minolta campaign accounted for three of the eight awards Eisner won at the Advertising Association of Baltimore's annual Addy awards banquet Saturday.Best of show award went to Eisner for its "Not Close Enough" commercial comparing Minolta's repair service with that of "the other guys." In the commercial, a Minolta repairman is alerted to a malfunctioning copier by a computer link called the "Smart System."

In the coming months, you'll see billboards in Baltimore touting the Police Department, and you'll hear radio spots about its good deeds.There will be messages about a youth choir sponsored by the department, a mentoring program and efforts to revive a Police Athletic League in the city.It's all part of a two-year, multimillion-dollar advertising drive designed to spread the word about the department's work in the community, Greg DesRoches, president of the Advertising Association of Baltimore, said yesterday.

In an action that highlighted deep divisions within the organization, the Advertising Association of Baltimore canceled an election of officers in mid-ballot yesterday amid allegations of coercion and improper handling of ballots.Edward Kiernan, the outgoing president of the group, said the decision to declare the current balloting null and void had nothing to do with charges by presidential candidate Jack Gilden that his opponent, Barbara Blum, had been seen passing out ballots to members in a Baltimore bar and restaurant.

Sapp to the position of local advertising sales manager, responsible for Baltimore and Harford counties. With the cable TV operator for four years, the Bel Air resident's previous assignment was as advertising sales manager for Comcast's Pittsburgh operation. Baltimore International Culinary College announced that Kari Beims joined the staff as director of communications. She will oversee public affairs, advertising, promotion and market analysis for the renowned culinary arts and hospitality training facility.
