Leaders of minority religious communities were requesting additional police protection as they prepared for weekend services after the fatal shooting of worshipers at a Sikh temple in Wisconsin last Sunday. Rehan Khan, president of the Masjid Al-Falaah mosque in Abingdon, said he has requested additional protection from the Harford County sheriff's office for the rest of Ramadan, which runs through mid-August, after members of the mosque expressed fears that they could be targeted.

Several notable Ravens - including eight-time Pro Bowl free safety Ed Reed - were new additions on the list of absent players from Monday's practice at the team's training facility in Owings Mills. Reed banged his left knee trying to stop backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor during a red-zone exercise at Saturday's session at M&T Bank Stadium. Reed was on the sideline for a few minutes, but did return to the field and finished practice. Nose tackle Ma'ake Kemoeatu and inside linebacker Dannell Ellerbe were not present.

Authorities investigating the strange circumstances of Violet R. Ripken's abduction hope that tips made in response to grainy images of the suspect will lead to an arrest. "We are attempting to look at other sources of video, photos" to release publicly, FBI spokesman Special Agent Richard Wolf said Monday. He would not say where authorities might be looking for surveillance footage, or where the suspect might have stopped during his daylong ride with Ripken in Ripken's 1998 Lincoln Town Car. Last week, Aberdeen police released two images of a man wearing an orange baseball cap and light-colored shirt standing in front of what appears to be a business.

It would be a boost for businesses in the two sections and residents near the downtown area and the tourist-filled Historic District, said Mayor Joshua Cohen.

Each one weighs as much as 9,000 Tony Siragusas (the former Ravens defensive lineman) and at full extension rises as high as Baltimore's World Trade Center. Together, the port's four new cargo cranes are about to make a splash on the city's skyline. But first the gleaming white cranes, worth $40 million, must be rolled off the ship that brought them from China — without a splash. Coaxing them from the Zhen Hua 13 onto the dock requires delicate planning and brute force. Engineers and ironworkers at Seagirt Marine Terminal in Baltimore's port have already unloaded two of the cranes and are ready to move the final two before the month is out. On Sunday, the first crane came rolling off. On Tuesday morning, the second crane crept across the ship's deck on railroad tracks and crossed the 8-foot watery gap between the ship and its berth.

Six years ago, George and Jennifer Klein were looking for the perfect spot to build a new home. They found it in a wooded lot in the Baltimore County development of The Highlands of Perry Hall. Later, in March 2007, the Kleins moved into their two-story Colonial with a gray stone facade, a house they had watched going up at every stage of construction, while selecting interior and exterior options and upgrades throughout the process. After five years of settling in, the couple could not be more content.
