A 17-year-old girl accused of assaulting her grandmother so severely that the 69-year-old woman had a heart attack and died moments later will be tried as an adult on a charge of murder, a Baltimore judge ruled yesterday. Jabreria Handy and her mother burst into tears as Circuit Judge John P. Miller denied the teen's request to send the case to juvenile court because of her history of "behavior problems" at Samuel L. Banks High School. During the hourlong hearing, prosecutor Jennifer Rallo described how Handy had been suspended nine times during the past two school years, including once for throwing a large textbook into a door, causing glass to break and scatter over a teacher's arm. Handy also had refused to attend counseling and had been diagnosed with oppositional defiance disorder, Rallo said.

Florist? Check. Photographer? Check. Police traffic coordinator? Double check. Several Towson-area brides-to-be will share their big day Saturday with Michael Phelps, star of a parade that will shut down the town's main thoroughfare for hours. To something borrowed, something blue, add something stuck in traffic: an entire wedding party. Enough to morph the sweetest vision in white into Bridezilla. "We freaked out a little bit at first," said Elizabeth Rowley, who is to be married at St. Pius X Church, situated on the parade route formerly known as York Road.

All season long, the Arundel Wildcats lived by the pass. Last night in the Class 4A state championship game at M&T Bank Stadium, they died by the pass in a 36-30 loss to Quince Orchard of Montgomery County. The Cougars won their second state championship, with the other in 1991. The Wildcats, who won a state title in 1975, were playing in their first final since 1979. Quince Orchard quarterback Jaron Morrison connected with Travis Hawkins on a 78-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 remaining to give the Cougars a 30-23 lead and cap a 16-point comeback in the fourth quarter.
