It was a painful reunion yesterday with Trent Dilfer, but it had nothing to do with the Super Bowl-winning quarterback's one-time grudge against the Ravens. Entering the game without four starters and then losing two offensive linemen in one series, the Ravens persevered in an ugly yet satisfying 9-7 victory over the San Francisco 49ers before 67,885 at Monster Park. Injuries continue to take their toll on the Ravens, who were down to three rookie blockers, one healthy tight end and no backup offensive linemen.

Please evaluate this year's offensive line compared to last year's. What is the difference? How much does the team miss guys like Tony Pashos, Keydrick Vincent and Ovie Mughelli? Drew The Ravens of last season were better because Jonathan Ogden was in playing shape, and Pashos is better than Adam Terry. Pashos had a nasty attitude. Terry is a softie. This group, though, has more potential because it is more athletic. With some time, this group can become dominant. 8 Sun columnist Mike Preston answers readers' questions each week at baltimoresun.

ATLANTA -- In a game in which a majority of their starters took the night off, the Ravens might have been preparing to be without a Pro Bowl player in the regular-season opener. At the start of last night's 13-10 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, the Ravens moved Adam Terry to left tackle, a possible indication that injured Jonathan Ogden could miss the Sept. 10 game in Cincinnati. Jonathan Ogden said yesterday that he would "probably" be a game-time decision, but there are indications the 10-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle will start tomorrow night at the Cincinnati Bengals. Ogden, who missed the entire preseason with a hyperextended big toe on his left foot, has practiced all week without any apparent setbacks and has worked the past two days without having his left foot taped. Both are encouraging signs for Ogden, who has never missed a season opener. "Do I feel great?

What to watch in the Ravens' preseason opener: POSITION Offensive tackle. Jared Gaither and Adam Terry, the projected starters, are out with ankle injuries. That means the Ravens will be starting Chad Slaughter at left tackle and Mike Kracalik at right tackle. With the team's lack of depth here, Slaughter and Kracalik could play the majority of the game. VETERAN Cornerback Frank Walker. He signed as a free agent from Green Bay, but his arrival has been overshadowed by fellow newcomer Fabian Washington.

THREE THINGS THAT NEED TO GO RIGHT ... 1 Clock Big Ben. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been sacked at least three times in 11 of his past 15 games. When the Ravens get to him, they usually win. 2 Get Todd Heap involved. The Ravens tight end has a couple of drops and a fumble, but he is still their best deep threat. The Ravens haven't produced a completion of more than 19 yards this season. 3 Protect the edges. This is the game in which offensive tackles Jared Gaither and Adam Terry will be tested.
