Barely five minutes into the first inning last night Chicago White Sox slugger Jim Thome launched a towering three-run homer to center field and signaled that this was not going to be the night Adam Loewen chased away the concern that has been growing up around him for the past two months. Loewen worked to a full count against leadoff man Nick Swisher and gave up a sharp single to right. He walked Orlando Cabrera on four pitches. And Thome did what Thome does to inexperienced pitchers with shaky command.

Last night's scheduled game between the Orioles and Texas Rangers in Arlington was postponed because of rain. The game will be made up today as part of a doubleheader beginning at 5:05 p.m. The Orioles' Steve Trachsel (1-0, 3.18) will face Kevin Millwood (0-2, 1.29) in the first game. It will be the Orioles' Adam Loewen (0-0, 7.71) against Kason Gabbard (1-0, 0.00) in the second game.

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Orioles' six-game winning streak survived at least another day. The Orioles' game last night against the Texas Rangers was postponed because of rain and will be made up today as part of a doubleheader at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The first pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. "What you'd like to do is just play," said Orioles manager Dave Trembley, whose team is 6-1. "I would have preferred to play, but obviously, the elements are such where you can't.
