ASHBURN, Va. - When the Washington Redskins take the field in their final preseason game tonight, wide receiver Patrick Woodcock is well aware of the task ahead of him. The second-year receiver is one of seven wide-outs on a Redskins roster that seems set with six - Laveranues Coles, Rod Gardner, Taylor Jacobs, Cliff Russell, Patrick Johnson and Darnerien McCants (Arundel). Woodcock's play tonight (8 o'clock, chs. 4, 24) against the Jaguars in Jacksonville could determine whether the Washington coaches decide to keep six or seven wide receivers.

Ravens strong safety Will Demps worked with the first team during part of yesterday's practice, further proof that the undrafted rookie will make his NFL debut on Monday night against the Denver Broncos. Neither he nor the coaching staff, however, would confirm that Demps will start in place of Anthony Mitchell, "I don't take anything from it," Demps said of practicing with the starters. "I think it was just to get back into the rotation." Demps has recovered from a dislocated elbow he suffered in the final preseason game.

After getting the call late last year, receiver Germany Thompson is willing to do whatever he has to do to keep his roster spot. Thompson, 6 feet 2, 208 pounds, was signed off the Ravens' practice squad and onto the active roster for the final three playoff games last year after tight end John Jones went down with an ankle injury. Thompson was on the inactive list for all three, but it netted him a Super Bowl ring and a good chance at making the active roster at the start of this season.
