Kelly Fahey scored the winning goal with 16 seconds remaining to send the UMBC women's lacrosse team to its first victory, 13-12 over host American yesterday. The Retrievers (1-7) held a 12-10 advantage with 2:46 remaining before the Eagles (4-5) responded with two goals 15 seconds apart to tie the game with 2:06 to go. UMBC won the ensuing draw control, setting up Fahey's game-winner. Salisbury 18, Randolph-Macon 3: Lynsey Bateman, Amber Stansbury and Linda Ackermann scored three goals each to lead the Sea Gulls (6-2)

Trevor Casey scored the game's first three goals and finished with five yesterday to lead No. 5 Georgetown (9-2) over Mount St. Mary's, 16-7, in a nonconference men's game. Mount St. Mary's (4-8) was led by Billy Jautze (two goals). Washington College 10, Swarthmore 3: The Shoremen (15-0, 8-0) won their school-record 15th game of the season and went undefeated in Centennial Conference play for the second consecutive season with a win over the host Garnet Tide (5-9, 2-5). McDaniel 11, Franklin & Marshall 7: Justin Merson had a game-high four goals, including three in the third period, as the host Green Terror (7-7, 5-2)

The second-ranked Salisbury women's lacrosse team upset top-ranked and defending Division III champion Middlebury, 12-10, yesterday in West Palm Beach, Fla. The Sea Gulls (6-0) avenged a 7-5 setback to the Panthers during the regular season a year ago and have won 17 of their past 18 games. The Panthers (1-1) saw their 20-game winning streak end. Salisbury was led by Linda Ackermann (Liberty), who had four goals and three assists. Junior Kate Scott (Broadneck) added three goals and three assists.

Salisbury's unbeaten and No. 1-ranked women breezed into the Division III lacrosse final four with a 15-4 victory over Washington and Lee yesterday in an NCAA regional final. Salisbury faces Colorado College, a 10-9 winner over Cortland State in triple overtime, at The College of New Jersey in Ewing, N.J., at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The Sea Gulls (16-0), playing at home, jumped to a quick 5-0 lead, but Washington and Lee answered with back-to-back goals at 15:35 and 12:28 of the first half.

Division III semifinal No. 1 Salisbury (16-0) vs. No. 6 Colorado College (12-1) Time: 11:30 a.m. Site: Lions Stadium, Ewing, N.J. Outlook: The Sea Gulls make their third trip to the final four and their second in a row, while the Tigers are newcomers to the semifinals. In the best season in program history, the Sea Gulls are outscoring opponents by 11.8 goals per game. They average 17.5 goals, tops in Division III. Kate Scott (35 goals, 30 assists) and Linda Ackermann (46, 17) lead a balanced attack, and goalie Ali Goetz allows just 5.9 goals a game.

Loyola scored two goals in the final 14 seconds to defeat Towson, 13-12, yesterday at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field. Kate Filipelli scored the tying goal with 14 seconds left and Sydney Greene added the game-winner for the Greyhounds (7-7) with two seconds remaining. Kate McHarg led Loyola with four goals and an assist, and Greene finished with three goals. Becky Trumbo scored four goals and assisted on two for the Tigers (7-8). Salisbury 17, Goucher 4 -- Liz Funk, Ani Khatchatoorian and Sue Ackermann each scored three goals to lead the Sea Gulls (15-1)

Century wasn't too happy with its play against Liberty on Wednesday, even though the Knights emerged with the victory and the Carroll County girls lacrosse championship. When the No. 11 Knights met Liberty again in yesterday's Class 2A-1A West region quarterfinal, they took control early, running up as much as a 10-goal lead and cruising to a 13-6 victory. The Knights will meet the Rockville-Poolesville winner in a Monday semifinal. "This game, we played a lot better as a team," said midfielder Kelly Kasper, who scored three goals.

The Salisbury women's lacrosse team demonstrated why it is the top-ranked team in Division III as the Sea Gulls coasted to a 22-4 victory over Randolph-Macon (4-2) yesterday. Amanda Tack led the visiting Sea Gulls (7-0) with four goals and two assists, and Linda Ackermann had four goals and one assist. Goucher 16, Washington College 4: Ashley Snyder finished with eight goals and an assist, and Whitney Groseclose had three goals for the host Gophers (4-3). Senior Lindsey Eichner scored two goals for the Shorewomen (3-5)
