The Ravens won't know the extent of Terrell Suggs' Achilles tendon injury until Tuesday, but they are prepared to be without their top pass rusher and the reigning NFL's Defensive Player of the Year for a good part - if not all - of the 2012 season. Suggs tore his Achilles last Saturday during a workout in Arizona. He'll see noted foot specialist Dr. Robert Anderson on Tuesday in North Carolina to find out the severity of the tear and to have it surgically repaired. “I've already been to see two different doctors.

Ravens outside linebacker injured his Achilles tendon during a workout last week and is expected to miss most - if not all - of the 2012 season. Suggs, the 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year, is scheduled to see a foot specialist in North Carolina next week to determine the extent of the injury. Dr. Lew Schon, the chief of foot and ankle surgery at Union Memorial Hospital, discussed, in general terms, what the surgery and recovery from such an injury entails. If Rep. Joe L. Barton's apology to BP's Tony Hayward and his criticism of the $20 billion escrow fund to pay for damages caused by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill as a "shakedown" by the White House for which he was "ashamed" were truly a slip of the tongue — or even the views of some lone-wolf Republican — the damage done to the GOP would be modest at best. But here it is a week and a half after the infamous apology by the ranking Republican on the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and — thanks in no small part to the decision of House GOP leadership to keep him in that role — the wellspring of public outrage continues to overflow.

It's unclear whether a healthy Nolan Reimold or Felix Pie would have been able to run down Evan Longoria's liner in the left-center-field gap that was the key swing in another one-run victory by the Tampa Bay Rays over the Orioles on Wednesday night. But Orioles manager Dave Trembley would have at least liked to have had the opportunity to find out. Trembley wanted keep Reimold and his surgically repaired left Achilles tendon off the turf at Tropicana Field, but those plans were scuttled when Pie aggravated a left rotator cuff strain while making a throw in Tuesday's season opener.

Orioles manager Dave Trembley met with Nolan Reimold before Thursday's game to clear up confusion the young outfielder may have had about his role with the club. Reimold, who established himself as the Orioles' regular left fielder last season but isn't close to 100 percent after having surgery on his left Achilles in September, didn't play in the season opener and started in the outfield Wednesday only because Felix Pie aggravated a shoulder injury. He was in the lineup in Thursday's series finale at designated hitter with Luke Scott getting the start in left field.

The ball was hit into the hole between shortstop and third base, and Nolan Reimold, as usual, broke quickly from the batter's box. Reimold beat out a handful of balls like this last season, turning apparent outs into infield hits. On Tuesday, he arrived at first base a half-step after Minnesota Twins shortstop Brendan Harris' throw, and then jogged back to the Orioles dugout with a limp. This spring has been a struggle for Reimold, 26, who is trying to balance getting ready for the season with protecting his surgically repaired left Achilles tendon.
