A Glen Burnie man was sentenced in Anne Arundel Circuit Court yesterday to six months' work release and one year under house arrest for killing a man in a 1993 traffic accident on the Baltimore Beltway.Samuel Joseph Bianco, 38, of the first block of Elm Drive also was sentenced to three years of supervised probation.Bianco, a service manager for a trucking company, entered an Alford plea to homicide by motor vehicle while intoxicated Aug. 16.An Alford plea means the defendant is not admitting guilt, but acknowledges the state would have sufficient evidence to convict him if the case were tried.

A 31-year-old Sykesville man was being held on $15,000 bail on traffic charges after a police dog found him in the woods not far from the scene of a traffic accident in Eldersburg Monday night.State police who responded to an accident report about 10 p.m. said they found a damaged 1978 Pontiac with no license plates that had hit a parked car on Bartholow Road near Johnsville Road. They said they found one tag in the grass near the vehicle.A check with the state Motor Vehicle Administration identified the owner of the tag as Robert Dale Holt of the 5700 block of Strawbridge Terrace, they said.

A 5-year-old girl, her mother and another woman were critically injured late last night by a hit-and-run driver who rammed into them on a Northeast Baltimore street, police said.The accident occurred about 11:30 p.m. while the three victims were crossing the 4900 block of Sinclair Lane near Parkside Gardens Apartments, police said.A well-dressed man driving a smoke-gray, or black, BMW was heading south on Sinclair Lane at high speed and struck the pedestrians, police said.The mother and her child were thrown over the hood and struck the windshield, police said, the impact knocking them out of their shoes, breaking the car's windshield and heavily damaging its front end.The man was able to speed away and was last seen driving south on Edison Highway, police said.

Six people were hospitalized early yesterday after a 17-year-old driver, fleeing a disorderly party with a carload of youths, crossed the center line on Cromwell Bridge Road and collided head-on with another vehicle, Baltimore County police said.The accident occurred near Loch Raven Senior High School just before midnight when a southbound 1985 Toyota Celica crossed the center line, trying to turn left onto Oakleigh Road, the police said.The 17-year-old Cockeysville youth was charged with driving while intoxicated and assault on a police officer, said the police, who withheld his name because he is a juvenile.

The parents of a Rockville man killed in a drunken driving accident last January filed a $4 million suit in Circuit Court yesterday against the Crofton motorist who hit him.Melvin and Eve Getz allege that negligent driving by Michael T. A longtime Phoenix dentist was charged yesterday with a hit-and-run accident in which a teen-ager -- who turned out to be one of his former patients -- was pinned to a tree by a Mercedes-Benz.Michael James Bennett, 50, of the 14000 block of Jarrettsville Pike in Phoenix, is charged with failure to remain at an accident scene and failure to render aid in the July 24 accident, Baltimore County police said.Dr. Bennett was charged in a summons. A trial date hasn't been set.The victim, Dan Lally, 15, was helping a stranded motorist on Paper Mill Road when the car came around a curve and hit him shortly after 10 p.m.The Lally youth had been a patient of Dr. Bennett's when he was 3 or 4, the youth said last night.

CONSTRUCTION BARRELS STRUCK, WORKERS HURTTwo road workers were injured Tuesday when they were struck by several orange construction barrels that became airborne after being struck by a car on Cedar Lane in Columbia, county police said.Val Jackson, 23, of the 5900 block of Woodcutter Way, and Michael Means, 30, of the 300 block of East 27th Street in Baltimore, suffered minor injuries and bruises in the 3:30 p.m. accident, police said.The accident occurred just south of Braeburn Road in Columbia, near a construction site in which Jackson and Means were doing contracted work.
