Ross Perot arrived at the Naval Academy in 1949 a short, jug-eared Texas boy with a broken nose. It was his 19th birthday and he had never been on a ship or seen the ocean.But he tackled the academy the way he did everything else -- with a confident vengeance.Mr. Perot emerged four years later as president of the class of 1953 and a devoted champion of the academy."I hope that each midshipman here tonight realizes how fortunate you are to have this unique opportunity to attend the Naval Academy," an enthusiastic Mr. Perot told the midshipmen during a 1990 speech in Annapolis.

U.S. Naval Academy history Professor Richard P. Abel will receive the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association's fifth annual award for teaching excellence. The award is presented to the civilian faculty member judged most outstanding in teaching and sustained contributions to the individual development of midshipmen during the past year.ILLUSTRATION: PHOTOCAPTION: U.S. Naval Academy history Professor Richard P. The Ballet Theatre of Annapolis has been selected to participate in Baltimore's Dance Commissioning and Residency Program and, and to perform at Artscape '91. This program is co-sponsored by the Mayor's Advisory Committee on Art and Culture, and Baltimore's Festival of the Arts Inc.In addition, BTA receives a two-week residency with nationally known American choreographer Jennifer Muller. She will create anew dance piece especially for BTA.BTA will premier the new work during the Baltimore Arts Festival at 7:15 p.m. July 20 on the Decker Stage near the Walters Art Gallery.
