Mount St. Joseph didn't win a single Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference football game during the regular season, but running back Nevone McCrimmon made sure that trend didn't continue in the playoffs. Offensive linemen Patrick O'Connell, Shane Lowman, Jake Dahl, Nick Phelps and Matt Lindner blew holes in Archbishop Spalding's defense and McCrimmon ran 30 times for 176 yards and two touchdowns as the visiting Gaels upset the No. 10 Cavaliers, 19-13, Saturday night in an A Conference quarterfinal.

Relaxing with his feet propped up in his enclosed patio, Eastern Shore waterman Paul Abey hears chirping martins and lapping bay waves. He also hears a low-pitched whir. "It's a good sound," Abey said of the hum coming from blades spinning atop a 45-foot tower on the edge of his front lawn. "I've cussed the wind all my life," the Green Point crabber added, "but now I don't mind." That's because he knows that, with every swish of his windmill, he's saving money. His step away from traditional power sources reflects an increasing interest nationwide in what are known as small wind energy systems.

Spalding finished with 172.5 points, ahead of second-place Georgetown Prep (146.5) and third-place Urbana (141.5). The Cavaliers are the first Baltimore-area school since McDonogh in 2008 to win the 26-team event - which included teams from four states.

If Chesapeake's sturdy 4-0 win at Old Mill last night is any indication of what's in store this fall, the rest of Anne Arundel County will have to find a fast pace to keep up. With the needed goal out of the way early - a header from Mike Jungerheld off a Stephen Abey cross in the ninth minute - the No. 4-ranked Cougars kept right on coming, forcing the issue at every turn before scoring three late goals against the worn-out Patriots. Bigger, deeper, more physical and just as fast, the Cougars (2-0)
