Editor: I'm retired from the Military now after 22 years of service and three tours of combat. I worked on APG as a civilian employee for nine years now at this BRAC process is a joke. I'm writing this because the poor news and newspapers are so blind on the politicians we have in charge. This ride option deal [for APG commuters] is just another handout. The politicians for Maryland let this post run down for the 30 years that I've seen APG, and when the New Jersey workers came, they built new, state-of-art buildings and restaurants, etc. for them, and everyone else is still stuck with outdated building and roads.

It's not every day a Harford County high school team wins a state championship, and it had been largely unheard of for a girls basketball team to make it to the state final game until but a few years ago. Sports editor Randy McRoberts pointed out Wednesday in The Aegis , sister newspaper to this one, that in the modern era of high school sports – which began in 1973 when Title IX went into effect stipulating that girls have the same athletic...

Making sure 21,000 people can get to and from work is a logistics nightmare. To put the number into some kind of perspective, it is about three and a half times the number of people who can be seated at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, or a little less than half of a capacity crowd at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Consider also that Aberdeen Proving Ground has limited access through guarded gates for going in and out, roughly comparable to the situation for a stadium parking lot. Then there's the matter of most people who go to a ballgame are likely to be riding with at least one other person, whereas carpooling to work isn't as prevalent.

Aberdeen point guard Kierra Palmer doesn't usually have to carry the load for her teammates, but in Saturday night's Class 3A girls basketball championship, the sophomore played the key roles of leading scorer and defensive spark. In the title game rematch against a No. 10 River Hill team completely undaunted by their opponent's speed and quickness, Palmer sparked the late run that gave the No. 2 Eagles enough room to hold on for a 51-47 victory and their second straight state title at UMBC's RAC Arena.

The time has come, as it does as spring approaches, for people considering whether to run for office in Havre de Grace to decide to fish or cut bait. To date, a few candidates, including the incumbent mayor, have expressed interest in facing the voters again, which is a healthy thing from a civic perspective. In a representative democracy elections can never be held too frequently. People in elected office are supposed to be acting on behalf of the electorate and communicating with the general public, so those who cast ballots know the motivations behind particular public policy actions.
