We're surprised Megan Auman had the time to chat with us. After all, she's not only a jewelry designer and metalsmith, but an educator and entrepreneur (yes, we feel like slackers, too). Auman, 30, began her eponymous jewelry line after graduate school in 2006, and her work, found at meganauman.com , is sold at more than 60 stores. And she's helping to shape the next generation of designers. In 2009, she created Designing an MBA at designinganmba.com, focusing on business thinking for designers.

Baltimore is about to have a situation on its hands. Not just any situation. The Situation. The Situation is the nickname for one of the stars of MTV's infamous new reality TV show, "Jersey Shore." The 27-year-old from Staten Island has a real name - Mike Sorrentino - but that's inconsequential. What matters is, The Situation has six-pack abs so well-defined that he calls them "the situation" (hence, the nickname). Every opportunity he gets - at work, on magazine covers, on the dance floor - he lifts his shirt to show them off. Like the other guys on "Jersey Shore," The Situation is a self-declared guido's guido - with carefully gelled hair, perma-tanned skin and alpha-male attitude.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Nancy Alquist ordered yesterday that an independent trustee be appointed to take control of A&B Check Cashing after federal officials said they found evidence that appears to support allegations that the company's owners were involved in a check-kiting scheme that cost local financial institutions millions of dollars. The U.S. Trustee's Office, an agency of the Justice Department that monitors parties in bankruptcy cases, had asked for a trustee to oversee the bankruptcy of A&B and its parent Colleen Inc. The company closed its 20 locations and filed for bankruptcy protection in June, listing as creditors the two banks and money-order business that claim to be victims of the kiting scheme.

Local businessman Brian Satisky, whose A&B Check Cashing has been accused of costing two banks and a money-order firm $10 million in an alleged check-kiting scheme, testified at a bankruptcy hearing yesterday that he didn't know about several financial matters at the company. He said his brother, Alec, handled the cash-flow bookkeeping. A&B shut down its 20 locations around Baltimore last month after Alec Satisky committed suicide, according to Baltimore police and the state medical examiner, at the company's headquarters.
