ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Right-hander Zach Clark's first taste of the major leagues lasted just one appearance, but given the long road it took to get there, the UMBC product wasn't surprised by the news that he had been designated for assignment before Saturday's afternoon game against the Angels at Angel Stadium. The Orioles needed to make both 25-man and 40-man roster space for Saturday's starter, right-hander Freddy Garcia, and Clark - a non-drafted free agent who signed for $1,000 and played parts of eight years in the minor leagues before this week's promotion  - was the odd man out. “It's about right for my path,” Clark said.

On Roger Clemens I'm so sick of this guy and how MLB caters to him. You would think there would be some kind of MLB rule that would stop this. I don't know why this attention hound hasn't done a reality show. He should at least be required to be on someone's 40-man roster at the beginning of the season.

In the hours leading up to tonight's midnight deadline to tender contracts to arbitration-eligible players, the Orioles acquired 25-year-old infielder Yamaico Navarro from the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for minor-league right-hander Jhondaniel Medina. To make room for Navarro on the team's 40-man roster, the Orioles designated right-hander Stu Pomeranz for assignment. The team also agreed to terms with second baseman Alexi Casilla, outfielder Steve Pearce and catcher Taylor Teagarden, avoiding arbitration with all three.

The Orioles have added to their outfield surplus by announcing the minor league signing of Chris Dickerson. The 30-year-old Dickerson, who will receive a spring training invite, joins a crowded Orioles roster of veteran outfielders not on the 40-man roster:  holdovers Steve Pearce and Lew Ford, as well as Jason Pridie and infielder/outfielder Conor Jackson. In addition, Adam Greenberg, who made headlines last year with one at-bat for the Miami Marlins, was signed to a minor league deal.
