PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia Flyers have cast off their anti-Soviet past and welcomed 27-year-old winger Andrei Lomakin from Moscow Dynamo. For general manager Russ Farwell, Lomakin's participation in the Flyers' practice Thursday at the Coliseum in Voorhees Township, N.J., culminated nearly a year of delicate negotiations. For older members of the organization and many fans, the addition of Lomakin ended a long and sometimes bitter relationship between the Flyers and the Soviets. It was the Soviet Red Army team that walked off the Spectrum ice in the 1976 Super Series.

Elvis may have left the building, but his doppelganger has come to the beach. In recognition of the 25th anniversary of the King's death, Elvis impersonator Jesse Garron brings his "Tribute to Elvis Presley" show to Bethany Beach, Del., tomorrow and to Ocean City Sunday. Performing Elvis hits of the '50s, '60s and '70s, in a voice that even wise men might say was surely the King's, Garron becomes Elvis, from his long sideburns to his bell-bottomed polyester suit. If you've never experienced an Elvis concert, this may be the next best thing.

In the 2002 hit "Air Force Ones," the rapper Nelly extolled his love for the sneaker in the song's title: "I need two pair," he drawled. "Give me two pair." Clearly Nelly is not from Baltimore. If he were, he'd have far more than just two pairs. Nike is launching a major promotion for the 25th anniversary of its Air Force 1 - a sneaker that Baltimore had a major role in saving and helping to become an urban fashion sensation of the past generation. BETHEL, N.Y. -- High above the tents and campfires and drum circles, where several thousand music lovers were celebrating the 26th anniversary of the original Woodstock festival, a gray banner bearing the grinning-skull logo of the Grateful Dead glowed against the night sky, illuminated by a flashlight. Its owner, Ronald De Graw, said he was letting the battery run down, allowing the symbol of his favorite band to fade into the darkness. It was something of a tribute to Jerry Garcia, the Grateful Dead's spiritual center and lead guitarist, who died Wednesday.
